Default American Flag - not allowed to touch the ground?

Here at big old Notre Dame we had to ask for directions to the book store... .so we found a lady who was removing the flag from the flag pole (run it up the flag pole..ahahha)... anyway... she said "i can't let this thing touch the ground"... ?

my moms said that is normal for the american flag? it is a disservice to let it hit the ground???? is that normal? I never heard of this.....

yes its normal. it is considered disrespectful to let it touch the ground. cuz well, its the symbol of our nation. i think its a couple degrees worse than if you dont take off your hat for the pledge of allegiance. especially if you are a trained govt employee.

Absolutely true; you should not ever let it touch the ground.

not to sound unpatriotic or disrespectful, but treat the american flag like you would your own balls (if your a guy) - don't let it touch the ground, don't get it dirty and remember to tuck it away when not in use.

I think there's a special way to dispose of flags that have touched the ground too, right? A special way of burning it or something...

I could be mistaken about this though.
