Interesting... a couple weeks back I saw some guy taking down a huge flag off one of buildings near USC and he just let it fall to the floor (intentionally) and then picked it up.

what does that have to do with anything?
It's a piece of material that just happens to have the image of your flag on it.. It's the intent, not the happenstance of what happens to it.

If I drop a flag, shit happens, if I throw it on the ground then that is something else.

Oops, I'm a bit slow on the reply button.....this is in response to PeaveLove&S2K.....If you have a flag that has touched the ground or is old and frayed, you can take it to the local VFW (I think the boy scouts can do this too) and have it disposed of properly.

Honestly, if your flag brushes the ground due to error or inattention, just ignore it, move on, and be more careful next time. The "Flag doesn't touch the gound" thing is intended to prevent trampling the flag and other misues as protest or negligence. It isn't supposed to suggest you need to burn it if you happen to let it slip while raising or lowering it, for instance. And as far as disposal, feel free to burn it yourself if you have the place to do it. Again, the "no flag burning" thing is to prevent flag burning as a form of protest; just cut the stars up and cut the stripes apart, and then burn it in a respectful manner. There's no need to be elaborate, just do it respectfully.

Just be careful when handling the flag basically. Don't be like these tools.

when a flag becomes battered from the weather or torn, youre suppose to burn it(not trash it, bury it). oh the irony...

People are such morons when it comes to the flag code. Learn it or don't touch our flag! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Flag_Code

I see tattered flags flying everywhere and the owners must think they're patriotic. Or flying at night without a light on them. Grr...
