Default AMG and MB...now one!

I read tonight that AMG is now considered the performance arm of MB. Pretty cool, AMG has always done some amazing stuff.

What do you guys think of this? I wonder what, if any, impact this will have on AMG'd MB's....thoughts?

Well, it's like imagine you can buy Mugen spec cars ... For example, pay an extra $5 - 10K and you can have the Mugen S2000 instead of the normal one. Pay extra and you have the Mugen Integra Type R. Well ... It would be nice if Honda thought about the same thing as well. Since you can always buy AMG spec MBs off the showroom in most countries anyway.

I thought it had been that way for some years now. Since the C43 I think? Like the M division of BMW or SVT for Ford.

I thought it was too. Was there some recent news that offered a tighter relationship between the two?

My understanding was that MB purchased at least a controlling share of AMG several years ago. That's why all of the recent super Benzes have had AMG badges on them. It's kind of like Mercedes' version of BMW's M Division now.

From a January 1999 MB press release:

[QUOTE]AMG is the premier tuner and reacer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and is entrusted with running the company's GT racing effort. With the AMG-built CLK-GTR racer cars, Mercedes-Benz captured the FIA-GT championship two years in a row. Mercedes-Benz recently purchased a majority interest in AMG, and will continue to develop Mercedes/AMG vehicles through this partnership.
