Actually, both are still too large (byte wise) for an avatar.

The image I posted works.
xviper...I noticed sometimes when you click on properties straigt from the image it shows a larger file size than actual.

Why is does it is still unclear to me.

The image I posted right above yours tells me its 9,989 bytes.
When I downloaded onto my desktop its 4,608 bytes...

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. That's why I thought they were too big. I haven't a clue why this is so.

sorry to bump this thread, but is it 25 or 100 posts before I am able to upload my own avatar from my computer???

When I go to My S2k ---> Edit Avatar Settings, it doesn't even give me an option to upload my own avatar...

Pretty sure it was changed, you now have to be a paying member to have a custom avatar.

I could be wrong though.
