McCarthy was arrested on Feb. 24 on charges of DUI, and possession of the narcotic Xanax, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She was arrested again on March 11, charged with DUI and possession of marijuana. Both times she went free on bail.

She was arrested again March 12 and charged with DUI, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

She said she was high on marijuana each time she was stopped but wasn't drunk.

I was always under the impression that it wasn't illegal to drive while high on marijuana, up to a certain extent. I mean if you're so high you can barely function then obviously you can and should get arrested. But it has been proven that weed causes very little to no impairment while driving at normal doses. This chick must have been extremely high to get arrested and charged like that. I'm not making any excuses for her though, she is a dumbass for doing that once, let alone three times. Maybe she'll learn her lesson if she goes to jail.

Well I'm sorry to inform you that your feelings of the law aren't what the country abides by.

DUI is Driving Under the Influence of anything that the jurisdiction you are in considers bad, mmkay? If you are driving while sleepy, you can get a DUI.

DWI is Driving While Intoxicated and I have only ever seen this be used for alcohol related driving arrests.

So it sounds like she is a dumb b*tch who had the same feelings of the law that you had, Jag. Unfortunately, if you take a hit off the ol' peace pipe, drive and get pulled over by a dick cop, you can be arrested for DUI.

Wow, no need to be a dick about it. Seriously, don't get your panties in a bunch. You are right, you can get arrested for marijuana DUI but after doing some research, it looks like most cops don't waste their time on it because 1) it doesn't hold up in court, 2) most people in that circumstance would be charged with possession anyway so most officers don't charge for DUI, and 3) like I said, it has been proven many times that it causes very little or no impairment to driving so most people under the influence of marijuana can easily pass a field sobriety test. Like I said, the girl in the story was obviously very stupid to do this and I'm not condoning it at all. She should go to jail and probably will. All I was saying was that I didn't think cops arrested people for marijuana DUIs.

IMO Driving high on weed should be treated exactly the same as driving drunk. It may not impair you to the extent of someone who is wasted to the point where they can't walk, but don't try to tell me that it doesn't effect your reaction times. The last thing that we need are streets filled with people who were already terrible drivers, but now their reaction times are slowed considerably. I have never gotten high, but I have seen people that were high, and they certainly were not functioning at an alert enough level that I would want them piloting 4000lbs of metal.

To me this falls under the category of people who don't like being inconvenienced but laws that are designed to protect the public, and what is even better is that the laws that they complain about would even exist if it weren't for idiots like themselves who didn't have enough common sense, and created a situation where laws had to be put in place to protect the public from their idiocy.

Oh and don't try to play the "stop being hollier than thou" card. Cause one, I don't intentionally put the public at risk, and two, it is just an excuse used by those too ignorant to realize that they are not the most important people in the world, and that your pleasure is not worth other people's lives.
