The media is going to jump on the bad cop bandwagon becuase it will catch more viewers. Its the entertainment of it all, they do not care about bringing justice to anyone they only care about the mighty dollar and that means bringing in viewers.

I would go out on a limb here and say more LEOs help people then harm people. Agree or Dis?

TC is further strengthening the fact that 90% of all pigs are abusing their powers, doing wrong, being assholes, etc.

When a bad cop is bad, I want to see it in the news. Good cops exist but we shouldn't just ignore bad cops, they need to be exposed. Filing a complaint isn't enough, bad cops need more than a slap on the wrist. Same with any public servant who has the "authority" to file a BS report and blame an innocent victim.

Bad pizza delivery dudes can't legally pull a gun on you or detain you because they don't like you. Not a valid comparison.

Even among public servants, I hold law enforcement officers to a higher standard than the clerk at the DMV. You want THAT much authority over us? Better walk a straight f'ing line!

i really agree. there is too much tolerance for this type of stuff. not everyone is a victim of these messed up authority figures, but for those of us who are, it sucks that there is no real recourse. just wait until it happens to you.

The problem is, police, and the general public, does not understand how much authority they have over us, and that number is ZERO. Unless you are suspected of a crime or violate some sort of law, police have absolutely no power over a regular citizen, in fact, the citizen has MORE power...however, that doesn't stop police from abusing the tiny amount of power they have, and the uneducated public letting their rights get violated by forfeiting them.

The list goes on, and on.

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove other than this cop is allegedly, not a good cop. We're well aware there are bad officers out there; this is clearly (or would appear to be, I don't take one info source to play judge and jury) one of those LEO's. *golf clap*

Touche! The point any fellow cop hater is trying to make is that any other profession that does not carry a badge would go directly to jail for the offenses a badge would protect you from. Thats why they call it a shield! Lets completely ignore the fact that cops are supposed to uphold the constution, uphold the law and protect the citizens... Sure there are good and bad no matter where you go but only a cop gets off with paid vacation 9.9 outta 10 times, no matter how serious the crime. How is this fair or justice?

So what are we trying to prove? Maybe just pointing out the double standard that anyone else would immediatley go to jail and do serious time, but a bad cop? He gets paid vacation!!! Why do the good cops not crack down on the bad ones and clean things up? Cops have the reputation they have because they EARNED IT!

I am close friends with several cops and have some in the family, they bitch along the same lines that I do so why dont you go cry to them how they hate themselves? They are also pissed that all the bad ones get away with the shit they do while everyone says its ok because their job is hard.... a family member who is a cop said that excuse is bullshit if you dont have what it takes to uphold the law and remain just then you need to pick another profession.

NFRs, even when we know our rights they can violate them with minimal consequences.

I tell that story of a CHiP who threatened me when I was taking photos during a long stop on a public road (half dozen cars between me and the roadblock). If I kept taking photos he would have confiscated my camera, at a minimum. Sure, I'd get that back and maybe even an apology from his next-level supervisor. But it wasn't worth risking damage to my gear or the time it would take to retrieve at the station later or my potential time fighting a spurious charge.

If a cop doesn't like you he can "suspect you of a crime" and get away with at least delaying your travel and testing your civil rights. That's the authority I refer to. And there may not be a huge percentage of bad apples in the barrel but the ones who go all 'Rodney King' on suspects (or you or I) only get caught when there is a camera or enough credible witnesses. You can't say they don't exist.

And my hypothetical DMV clerk who is an equal @ss? No way can he ruin my day in quite the same way.

Yes, and not one of us have once argued that there aren't bad cops or that there aren't bad cops who have gotten away with things. Not one of us has excused any atrocity small or large than an officer has commited. In these examples, it is not fair or just; and thus me emphasizing the point that I want all of these types of things to go away. I want corruption, and evil to stay away from humanity period but certainly those who are in power to set, or enforce said laws. It's gross and it's wildly hypocritical.

Yet your friends and family are the prime example of what every level headed person here is trying to say. Good cops HATE bad cops. When you look at the atrocities in life and the sects they've been commited under; whether it's religion, government, politics, law enforcement, etc.; none of these establishments are bad establishments. It's simply that, bad people get put into positions of authority/power and exercise that power in malignant ways. In short; the problem is simply that there are bad people in this world, who get employed or involved in a variety of different institutions. You can't hang every single cop in the name of some sour apples, it's not fair to these men and women. And you know it's sort of funny, since my brother is in the military, but everyone talks about how troops "protect our freedoms". I don't remember the last time I or my community was protected by the guys in BDU's, but I certainly remember all the times that it was protected by the boys in blue. I think you people forget that despite the sour apples, how much these people put their lives on the line ON A DAILY BASIS. If you want proof in the pudding; I think in the last 12 months there's been at least 6 cop shootings, 3 involving suspects with automatic weapons DURING BASIC HIGHWAY TRAFFIC VIOLATION STOPS and this is just Oakland. Guess what, the worlds a scary place and these guys for better or worse wade through that shit waste deep daily. And I know, this is shocking, but yes... some people become jaded by that shit.
