I do critical mass in San Diego. Something similar to this happened about a year ago, a guy was blocking for the group and the car he was blocking got mad and ran him over, hitting several others as well. Dude spent two weeks in the hospital. After that the cops started showing up every time.

The driver should definitely go to jail, but its a dumb protest where bikers bike slowly through the streets creating traffic. My way of protesting the protesters would be to install the biggest train horn I could in a truck and honk at them in protest of their protest, then try to find a way to get around them on another street.

Everyone in that video should be hanged! Driver and riders. They were all being a-holes that day.

You guys need to know more to that story, it isn't so cut and dry. First of all, the cyclists weren't "innocent." Just google Critical mass, and you will see what type of people they are.

The car has a father and son in the passenger seat. A group of people were threatening them, started pounding on the car, etc etc....as you can see, the car has absolutely no way to go. The man was put in a primal position...protect your offspring...I would have done the same if I were in his shoes....it's either my kid, or run down an illegal, destructive, criminal bike group...the choice is pretty damn simple.

If you take part in critical mass, you deserve the darwin award and I am going to laugh if you get hit by a car.

I agree, nobody is innocent in this case. I am all for riding bikes as an alternate form of transportation, I got to live in Denmark for 2 months in college and they have an absurd amount of bicyclists. Any given day they have way more bicyclists out on the streets than a Critical Mass event has and yet there aren't radical things like this. They also use their bicycle lane along side the cars and obey ALL traffic laws. They have the infrastructure to do this all safely. Thats the key, if you are trying to do a Critical Mass event in a location that does not have the infrastructure to do so, then don't do it because you are the one causing the problem! If there is no infrastructure to handle more bikes then I believe you need to start your petition at your lawmakers office not on the street causing problems thereby "forcing" people to fix it.

As for the drivers actions, honestly people started hitting his car and taunting him. Lets go back to grade school boys and girls, if there is a giant bully is it smart to go up to him and start biting at his ankles and punching him in the shin? Probably not since he just might kick you in the face. The people at the back of the pack were taunting a vehicle larger than themselves to the point where they got kicked in the face.

Threats vs Actions. I'm not condoning either side here just saying that there were plenty of options besides running over a crowd of people. Why not just stop all together and let them move along?

Because it's easy to say that from behind a keyboard. If you were in that car, and had no place else to go while people are pounding on your car, and you don't know their intentions, you don't stop. You only have one option.

Same goes for you too. I think it's a bigger deal to run over a crowd of people then to just simply stop. I know what I would have done and it's not injury countless innocent protesters.
