I love my Dyson Animal. It's disgusting the stuff it pulls out of my carpet, including what seems like a full coat of my dog's hair, every week.

Over on Fatwallet, there are deals and discussions on the bagless vacs. most are pointless until a guy comes on and knows EVERYTHING about them. he says based on your usage, you would choose different ones. i will try to find the link, but it is very long.

Haven't tried the Dyson yet but our bagless Hoover was awesome. We've got a Kirby G6 and the wife likes the power-drive system but I don't think it cleans quite as well as the old Hoover (though it has a few more tricks it can do).

If you're really obsessed you should check out the iRobot Roomba. They don't have ANY power (tiny vacuum slit) but they get the job done by repetition. If you let that thing run a couple of times a week (get the Scheduler model) the results are amazing.

The best I've seen is a Thermax. No bags, no dry filters to allow dust to get in and out, just water to trap the particulate. Seems to make sense to me. It does dry and wet vacuuming, plus shampooing and such as well. It'll even condition your air and deodorize (or odorize) it.

The idea of agitating dirt and somehow still keeping it contained (like even the best dry, filtered vacuums) doesn't quite make sense to me unless you wet it to keep it down. That's what the Thermax does.

Dyson DC18 Slim

So far its been great and I really like the smaller size. I know people who have the Animal and love it as well.
