Our Dyson Animal has been simply great. I'm amazed at the cat hair it picks up, not to mention the amount of dust.
Plus it's way easier to use than the canister vacs and more powerful and versatile than most other uprights. The only downside is that it's bagless and thus makes a bit of a mess when emptying. But we simply bring the collection canister outside and dump it into a plastic garbage bag. Simple enough and that small downside is a very small inconvenience.
