THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER
This one is a little different... Two Different Versions!
Two Different Morals!
OLD VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!
--------------------------
that story would have been good except in 2008, there's a twist to the story.
the ant, in his greed to make even more money, lent money to stupid/blind earthworms who have no assets or means to pay him back.
then Congress, the Feds and the President all agreed that without the ant, everyone will suffer. So they take what little savings the grass hopper, Kermit, the lady bugs, dragonflies, etc had. They then proposed a rescue package to make the ants happy.
the moral of the story is: unless you're connected to the lawmakers, you're effed.

I still don't get it.
I was thinking along the lines of:
GRASSHOPPER enjoyed life and reaped the benefits of living dangerously during the summer when times were good.
The Ant saved and scrimped to make sure that he had a roof over his head during the inevitable Winter.
When the GRASSHOPPER realized he was screwed, he whined to the Government who then proposed an Ant-funded $700 billion dollar bailout.
Meanwhile, the GRASSHOPPER got to live fat all summer, lived large and dangerously, and instead of living his consequences, wound up screwing over the Ant. Again.
