Default any doctors here?

I dont have health insurance, and i thought this would go away after a week, but it hasnt yet. Basically i started walking/running/jogging from my apartment to my colleges fitness center, working out for about 45 minutes(lifting weights), and then running back. About 10 miles round trip. After a week, my left arm started to hurt. Anytime i lift anything that weighs more than a pound or two i get a pain in my arm. The pain is on the side if that makes sense. If the palm of my hand is facing down on my left arm, and i go from my pinky down towards my elbow and stop in the middle (inbetween my pinky and elbow), thats where the pain is. If i put pressure on that arm it doesnt hurt...its only when i lift anything. I didnt know if anyone might know why that is and if i should pay to see a doctor, or maybe it will just go away.
Thanks in advance
Fadi

Seriously, I bet you have a car, cellphone, cable, broadband and who knows what other trinkets.

If you're under 35 a catastrophic plan won't cost that much and could avoid some HUGE medical bills.

As to your arm, you probably pulled a muscle and it's inflamed, swelling and pushing against the nerve that runs the length of your arm. That's why you feel the pain in your hand.

Rest the arm and take something to reduce the swelling, like ibuprofen.

i never knew how much health insurance was, but people always complained about it being a lot, so i never looked into it. Im only 21 years old almost 22. Maybe ill go check some out next week.

My arm is the only thing that hurts and its not swollen. Any other ideas?

sounds like you pulled a the muscle that spans over your forearm. what kind of lifting have you been doing? did you fall recently or anything?

and on the side, you should get health insurance man. if you have a job and it is included it will be about $30-50 a month depending on what coverage you choose. its not that expensive compared to everything else you do.

Could be secondary to injury of:

Medial cutaneous nerve of forearm.

Ulnar nerve.

I gave you the beginning you can research the rest. It could be a simple thing or a complex thing and in this society I would not want to get sued so I'll leave you with that.

I suggest maybe you go to an urgent care or a doctor visit. For cash they may not be that much if it's a simple thing.

If you work out at the college gym, isn't there a student health center?

Are you in school? Are your parents insured? You really need health insurance.

Ya, im a college kid. My job doesnt offer health insurance. And my school said since im not enrolled in the current term that i would have to wait until Fall semester or pay them.
Idk what my parents have as far as coverage.

Thanks raj. I understand what you mean in this day and age, and its a shame it has come down to that. Ill look into the medial cutaneous nerve.

Thanks guys.

good luck man, but in future, seriously, plan to never ever be without health insurance. the nightmare you'll go through if anything really bad happens is totally not worth the risk.

example: i met a guy i went to HS with at a party in college, he looked totally different. not in a good way. super skinny. apparently he had this period after dropping out of college where he didn't have health ins. he had abdomen pain and didn't go to the hospital cause he had no insurance... he waited a couple months to get it seen by a doctor cause he didn't know what it was. finally got a job through a friend that got him ins, went to the hospital and got diagnosed. Appendicitis. His appendix had already burst, so his entire chest was infected. he had a scar running from just below his neck to almost his waist from where they had to open him up. he lost like 100 lbs and almost died, spent 2-3 months in recovery.

for someone who has health insurance, getting appendicitis diagnosed and minor surgery to get the appendix removed is about a 2 day deal. ask me how i know...
