rescue a mutt...

We have two rescues and they're great. Our female is a JR terrier mix and she is a fun pup. Tons of energy and agility but a prey drive to go with it.

I do suggest getting a female. Much more compliant, don't have the ability to lift leg to pee on beds, landscaping, neighbor's car, etc.

RESCUE!!!

It's been known that rescued animals are more caring than non-rescue because they feel it's like a second chance at a good life. So I'm told

I miss my mutt

American Eskimo. Ours lived 16 years and was a great dog. She was very clean (spent most days cleaning herself), she was very smart and a great companion.

Now we have a yellow lab. He's really big though, still a great dog.

FWIW we have had several Labs. All from local Lab rescue. They are a great dog with an excellent attitude. Down side, if you are not prepeared, they act and have energy like puppies for at leat 7 years.
Would also recommend that you pick a male as they are more laid back than the female. The females are much more protective and bark much more.

So true. Since we got the baby home, the boy is much more relaxed and plays the protector role, the girl is sassy and upset because she doesn't get the attnetion like she used to. It's starting to get on my nerves.

Not all breeders are bad. Do some research. Mine is very careful to use different stud dogs from all over the US, and avoid displacia and other problems. See my second GS at left. She is now 9 and no hip problems. She's very loving, good watch dog, but is a stubborn female. (also nearly 100 lbs.) Here she is with her boyfriend.

But I agree, rescue one from the pound.

We adore Molly and FloJo, our toy poodles. Scary smart and so affectionate.
