Thank you everyone for your posts... I am probably shooting for the Harrisburg marathon (that is where i live despite my Missouri location )... it is November 11th...

I am not dedicated enough to train for like 6 months just to finish 4 minutes faster... i just want to be well under 4 hours!

I have run 18. First one at age 41. PR (2:55) at age 50. Unless you have a very good base (years of 30-40 mile weeks) you have not left yourself enough time. A book to read is Jeff Galloway. He has training programs fro different levels of fitness. I suggest that you find a 1/2 marathon before trying your first with so little base.

I don't really enjoy running... i just want to say i did it... but actually run a semi-decent time too.

I will never run 35 miles per week for 6 months....... I have kids ya know.

Scot,

It is especially irresponsible of you to go out and run a marathon without adequate training if you have children!

If something happens to you it won't be just you that will suffer but them too. Either put in the necessary training or skip it. Don't let your ego get in the way.
