not really a superstition but... I try to always pick up pennies when I see them in the street. to me, it's like a humility test-- if I'm too proud or would be too embarassed to be seen picking up a penny-- then I need to pick up that penny.

i always figured i would probably throw out my back if i bent down to pick up a penny....haha

Isn't there a rule on whether it is face up or face down..... i think face up is supposed to give you good luck?

Morris - so if you turn 180 degrees to turn around....wouldn't you need to then do a 360 degree turn the other way to be going the direction you wanted...... so you would still be 'wound' by 180 degrees the other way..... it would be funny to watch.

I dunno whether it's good luck when heads-up or not, but I credit my propensity to pick up pennies with the biggest money find I ever had. a few years back I was walking the market district of SF; mid-week, business hrs, very busy sidewalk. I look down and see a dollar. stoked!! I bend down to pick it up and look over to the left... and there are three $20 bills folded in half just sitting there!! STOKED!! I swipe all of them up and look over to my right at a guy sitting in the window of a Starbucks staring at me, mouth agape . All the people who had been walking by were too busy to notice the wads of cash on the street. (or maybe too cool to pick up a measly $61?)

the next day I went out on a ridiculously expensive date with a girl who was a dud. dinner cost $122 after taxes and tip. so I consider that $61 as God's way of covering her half of the bill.

since we switched to finding money........... i found 8 perfect 1977 $20.00 bills under some carpet in one of my rental houses.... apparently they put it under the carpet for a rainy day, but never looked for it again.

(the carpet wasn't tacked in, it was just like a big rug.)

I used to have a ton of superstitions when I played baseball back in high school. Obviously it didn't mean anything because I never made it past the high school level.

i avoid the number 4 like a plague...it's a chinese thing.

i check the "yellow calendar" (chinese lunar calendar) for important things (such as wedding dates, moving dates, etc.)

naturally i see more "4"s in my life than anything else since i actively try to avoid it
