Default Any Organ Donors in here?

I went ahead and clicked the "Y" for organ donor. Not sure how it works, but I guess if they find me dead and can use some pieces they will take them.

sounds yummy.

Good for you, I'm not a donor anymore. I received a liver transplant last year April 30 (my donor was a 19 year old young man who's heart stopped suddenly). The reason for my transplant is Hepatitus C, which makes me ineligible to be a donor for blood or organ. I probably had the Hep C for the last 30 or so years, and didn't know it until about 7-8 years ago.

If you don't have one already, make out a living will, stating that you want to be an organ donor. Sometimes in the emotional times family won't do what you wish they would, make your choices clear.

Thank you

I guess in theory everyone *should* be. Not much use for your dead shit after you are dead. Kind of gross thinking about someone digging into my nice warm body ripping out all the good stuff.

It pisses me off when I see people who aren't organ donors. When you are dead, you have no use for your organs. Meanwhile people on waiting lists for new organs are dying beacuse there aren't organs to be found.
I could go on a page-long rant trying to convince people to become donors, but it should just be common sense. If just one person changes their mind after reading this thread, it will be worth it.

I hear you.

I'm currently waiting on a kidney. Fortunately, I live in FL and I'm a Type A and I can be picky (I'm waiting for a near-perfect one). People up north have to wait 2+ years for kindneys, and these are type As!

It also pisses me off when people aren't donors. Usually, the excuse is it is gross or they think they are going to get harvested next time they go to the ER. How many times has that happened...honestly?

One thing I find upsetting is that people who are B blood types have to wait a LONG LONG time for organs? Why? B's are rarer, and as a percent of population, B's don't donate much.

B types are more often than not black it seems. First off, blacks are prone to high blood pressure, and thus kidney failure. Then they have the problem of their "brothers" not donating organs for themselves. There seems to be a disproportionate number of black people at my dialysis center...many waiting on a kidney that will never come.

I've always told my family and made sure that my driver's license shows that I want to be an organ donor, should the opportunity arise.

You sure as hell can't take your organs with you, so why not let someone else have 'em?!

i don't know what type A vs Type B is , but my blood is "B Positive".

Hopefully no one is going to chase me down now and give me a "beat down" so they can take my stuff!!!!

I remember Governor Casey in Pennsylvania (where I live) needed like 3 different organs...somehow he jumped the entire list and then somehow some poor black guy in PGH got thumped into a coma who was a PERFECT match for Casey......it was like within just a month or so of when he was put on the list... it all seemed so planned.....i am sure it wasn't but it sure seemed that way.

Here is a blood type distribution chart:

TYPES DISTRIBUTION
RATIOS

O + 1 person in 3 38.4%
O - 1 person in 15 7.7%
A + 1 person in 3 32.3%
A - 1 person in 16 6.5%
B + 1 person in 12 9.4%
B - 1 person in 67 1.7%
AB + 1 person in 29 3.2%
AB - 1 person in 167 0.7%

BTW I am AB+ I was on the waiting list for a week, but I was also at that time the only AB+ waiting for a liver. Prior to the transplant I was told that it could happen that I could get a liver right away or that I could be waiting quite a while.

As you can tell this is a topic that is near and dear to me, so here is the NATIONAL ORGAN AND TISSUE REGISTRY Sign up website. This is the NATIONAL TRANSPLANT SOCIETY HOME PAGE
