Default Any Verizon users out there?

I dropped a whole mess of peking duck on my pants while eating at home today and quickly took them off and threw it into the washer. As soon as the pants got soaked in water, I realized I left my phone in there. Anyway, it's 25 days old and I read up on the 30 day warranty issue, but still a little confused. Can I just bring it in and ask for an exchange or refund? I didn't get phone insurance because I've always taken great care of my property...not so in this case.

I'm rather broke after Valentines Day and am hoping for a way to get a new phone for free via their 30 day policy. Could anyone chime in before I go into the store? I'd like to know some facts before I let the store workers kick me around.

purchase insurance immediately. the last time i checked you had 30 days after a phone purchase to buy the insurance. wait a few days, then report the phone lost or stolen.

before i get flamed, here's why: i have been told by verizon reps on several occasions that the insurance doesn't cover water damage (don't ask me why, they don't know either), but it does cover lost or stolen phones. so in their words, "if you drop it in the pool or lake, just leave it, and call it lost or stolen."

i'm not advocating lying, again, this is just what i've been told by their reps. i would say first, take the phone apart and let it dry out good, then put it back together. it may work fine.

I've been told insurance takes 30-60 days to kick in just. That's a long time without a phone.
