anybody ever worked at a carmax before?
I got a call from carmax after putting an app in for an interview. I work at CircuitCity now but I need more income if I want to pay my truck off faster and help parents out with my college. (and get my s2000 faster)
Is the income pretty good and commission? Am I going to regret leaving CircuitCity? (have had good expierence with them as far as mangerial staff to associate relationship)
Thats all I have to I think
Thanks all!

Maybe different from Carmax, but this is one of my favorite reads. A bit long but definitely worth checking out. A little insight into what its like to be a car saleman:

thanks for the link. skimmed over it but im gonna go more in depth
I test drove the 05 s2000 while at carmax but I didnt have the funds. CircuitCity isnt really putting out for me and we arent commission.
Carmax didnt seem to be a very pressure sales enviornment. But I do have some pressure at CC even though we are by the hour. So I think I could do it but Im gonna get the details during the interview.. plus its 55 miles there and back.. long drives :/

Selling cars kicks ass as long as your not easily discouraged... (you have to be good at it also)
At Carmax everything is very easy and orderly. most dealerships are like getting into a boxing ring, Ive worked at one where you see fist fights a couple times per week.

I have a friend who is in grad school/ and he works at carmax p/t and he loves it. IF you want you can work as little as 25 hours. Each sale is a flat commish., and there is no haggleing. You go 250.00 per sale, 75.00 for an extended waruntee, and 50.00 for any extras(tv's in suv's/mini van's ect) If your a top sales person there for a year or so you also get to make your own sched.
Not a horrible option, but if i were in your situation i rather work at carmax then make 10-15.00 an hour @ circuit city but not my cup of tea

as justin said above carmax is flat commission per sale. from what i have heard from the toyota carmax in laurel, md is that the flat rate is more like $100-$150. the $250 commissions might be from the used cars since they make more money on used. i really think the only way you can make any money there is to sell volume everymonth. like at least 15. it's a no haggle price so they do not negotiate so it's the "easy" way to sell cars.
i work for toyota and actually have to "sell", at carmax you don't really have to do shit except answer questions and do paperwork. the only thing i would be unsure of is how many cars you can actually sell. i know carmax down in laurel, md sells alot of cars but they also have a huge sales staff so that would depend on how mnay cars you can put out.

ditto on the article, lengthy, but a good read nonetheless
and that part about how some dealers use the phone intercoms in sales rooms for
their listening/negotiating advantage is some pretty disturbing info
