Default Anybody in graphic arts or printing?

I have some prints from an artist. They only make small ones. He also has giant freaking lithographs for many thousands, but I am not going to spend that kind of cash for a big poster.

I have been asked if the images are copyrighted, I don't know for sure but I would guess they certainly are, the artist is fairly famous.

Anywho, I would like to get one of the prints blown up for my wall. Some people tell me this would be legal because I own the print and can use it for my own purposes others tell me it would not be legal to reproduce even for my own use.

Anybody know?

I'm in the print industry, but I don't know the specifics on something like that.

I think it's general fair use policy that if you bought a print, you can do what you want with it for your own personal use. Don't quote me on that.

If you have a small print and try to blow it up fairly large, it's going to look pretty bad compared to their oringinal large format stuff anyway.

Its actually an art style that does not suffer from being blown up too large, and have viewed the image file on my 65" tv and it looked fine to me.

Fingers crossed it is not illegal.

As your as your not selling the print to make profit, your doing nothing wrong.

Some shops won't blow up prints though if their copy righted or have a water mark, so be careful where you take it.
