We have a Honda mower. Those are expensive, but reliable and quality. I don't mow, so I don't care.

Honda mowers are some of the most expensive on the market but as you say, they last so long that with any other brand, you would have bought 3-4 mowers in that length of time. And each one of those, you very quickly start to cuss and swear about this and that - hard starting, poor running, lousy cutting, bad design for the grass catcher, easily fouled spark plugs, crappy air filter design, etc. These things soon make up for the cost.

My parents just bought one (which I will invariably end up being forced to use for them ), and it is the quietest mower I have ever heard. I grew up a typical suburban kid who mowed the lawn once a week, so I can appreciate the quality that went in to making this thing. Yah, it was freaking expensive, but it was worth it.

I just bought one of the $599 models yesterday. My 10 yr old Craftsman 6.0 snapped its rod.
