Default Anybody use a knee strap?

Hi all!

Do any of you who run or jog use a knee strap to help with knee pain? I've seen them on people, but don't really know if they'll work. I started running about 3 weeks ago & my knee hurts. I was hoping to get some ideas to try before having to go see a doc.

Thanks!

The title made me think of Monica Lewinski for some reason.

I've used a Chopat (black, double strap) kneebrace for about a year now when running. Its just precautionary because I have a minor tear in the cartilage in my left knee. I went to the doctor and instead of having surgery, he gave me daypro (anti-inflammatory which worked wonders!) and told me to stretch and to wear a brace just in case.

I run quite a lot...maybe 3-4 times a week, 3-5 miles at a time...I have a 10K race in DC on st patty's day and a half marathon in VA Beach in sept. to give you an idea of my level of activity...but it helps to have a brace IMO good luck

You may want to check your shoes. If you are running your joints can take quite a pounding if you are not wearing good shoes. They can also help prevent shin splints.
I like the Nike airmax (read very heavy foot step) but there are a number of other great shoes out there. Its all a matter of what you like.

better yet...pick up a runners world magazine from Barnes and Noble...every so often they do a shoe review for all diff types of runners. Actually now that I think about it...just go to a running shoe store and have them analyze how you run/strike...and they should be able to recommend a good shoe for your running style. Oh, and get some inserts...they reduce over/underpronation Smartfeet is what I have

...and IMO Asics are the best shoes I've EVER run in
