Default Anyone aware of what happened on the weekend in Bali?

I'm amazed that no one seems to be talking about what happened in Bali over the weekend.

4 bombs went off killing about 200 people (mostly Australians).

It is highly suspected that this is the work of Al Quieda or an affliated group in retaliation for Australian involvement in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflists.

See the Aus section for more info.

Aussies,

Don't think that this tragic event is being taken lightly here in the states. Americans are extremely concerned and share (deeply) in the loss.

Al Quieda again, 100+ Aussies dead and 3+ Americans dead along with them among others. My only hope is that Aussies stay angry long enough to put the fire under our government again (now that the the sheep here in the US think the war is over after 9-11) to dispose of these evil savages and thier generations to come.

God Bless the victims and their families.

Hang in Aus, I'm with you.

The loudest thing we are hearing is "This is what we get for supporting the Yanks. Perhaps if we stick our heads in the sand again they'll leave us alone."

I don't support this attitude.

Folks that talk loud arent too smart there are they. I thought most Aussies had more balls than that.

You would be correct in your support.

Yes, we thank all of our friends and allies for the sacrifices and risks taken with us. On other boards I have posted my concern and admiration for the Australians, in particular, and I was even contemplating wading into your discussion in the Aussie forum but reconsidered because I thought my presence might be a distraction in an otherwise fascinating thread. In many ways Americans are guilty of *if it didn't happen to us, it didn't happen* mentality and that's a shame. Not to excuse the silence but currently our media is hyping a homegrown terrorist and as a result Bali isn't receiving the focus it rightly should. But most of us are well aware of the violence and loss suffered by those in Bali and all I can say is my hopes and prayers go out to the families and friends of those injured or murdered. I hope none of the board members has suffered a personal loss. Words fail in situations like these. Thank you again for the stand you have taken with us against terrorism. We share so much in common, but civilian attacks is one thing I would have wished had bypassed the people of Australia.

I'd like to echo bash's words EXACTLY. I couldn't have said it better. I'm really surprised the American media isn't focusing more, although the more I delve into the news websites, the more I see the realization of what's happened spreading.

Hang in there Aus guys. I tried looking around for that Indonesian owners thread I saw a while back but no luck finding it. My condolences go out to them as well.

This problem is spreading, and I don't think that it's anywhere near over. I know I'm going to come across as alarmist, but I think we're slowly headed towards a global conflict; basically, Muslims vs. The West.
It is deeply disturbing what evils will be committed in the name of religion.
As the attacks on 9/11 were an attack on all of free society, so are the bombings in Bali.
I wonder if the U.S. government will help to bring the perpetrators to justice. President Bush did say that we are at war with terrorism, wherever it may strike. I'm just thinking that he's got his hands full trying to start the war with Iraq, and that attempting to police this situation will hurt his lobbying.
I wonder what his advisors are telling him...

It's so frustrating, this feeling of helplessness over the current situation. My sympathies to all of those affected by this hateful act.
