You are probably in the clear. I've bought many many things off of ebay. Research is the key. Out of probably 100 purchases I got scammed once.

Bought a few Sony Ericssons and the First iPhone. As long as they have good feedback you have nothing to worry about.

not true - i have sold over a 100 cells almost 30% cheapear that retail. its not a problemo !!

I bought an older Sprint Bluetooth phone(dont remember the model) from a private seller, it was awesome, it even had nude pics of HER mexican girlfriend on it...Bonus.
I emailed her to thank her.
