Is anyone a cop
I am also in your shoes 18 yrs old and I dont even know what career
I'm intrested in. In Texas you have to be 21yr the become a cop. My
dad's friend who is a retired officer said you can goto the academy @
the age of 20 but when you graduate you have to be 21. Also they
require around 40-50 hours of college credit
don't
remember. Also pay is decent 40k-50k starting depending which city,
and benefits also.
Good Luck

Being a police officer takes a lot of responsibility. Some turn out to be very good at what they do but others tend to think that their shit don't stink and that just because they wear a badge they are always right, which is hardly the case.

Sticky2k - what are you considering after h.s?
to everyone else thanks for your imput and I hope to hear some more
in NJ the state troopers have a great gig - however, you need a degree for the staties (im about 95% sure)
many of the municipalities around me are at 85-95 after 5 or 6 years
however, like someone mentioned previously, to advance you need a degree - i think we have seen the last of the chiefs without college degrees
keep in mind that recruitment for many departments runs on the civil service exam and they only recruit once every two years or so for incoming classes - so plan ahead

You have to have a degree, take their NJT test (not that easy) and complete boot camp. It's doable, but you have to be very fit both physically and mentally.
I dont know about making 40, 50K for risking my life, and others..
Let alone, top out at 90K!
These guys need to make more for risking their lives!
Or, they should have some type of system to pay the people that work hard, more
I Dont know, either way... my life is worth much more than 100K, personally.
Good luck!
