Default Anyone else here into Powerlifting/Body Building?

So does anyone else here pry themselves out of thier car for enough time to go to the gym everyday? I have been weight lifting since the 7th grade and was very big into powerlifting in high school and also on the Army powerlifting team. Its a very big stress reliever for me. When I'm in the gym, I'm happy, content, and relaxed.

Anyone else as nutty as me?

I workout 5 to 6 days a week. Dont compete just challenge myself to be better that's all.
Juggle two jobs one as a mechanical designer and the other a Personal Trainer. I just finished my 4th MS150 (bike ride from Houston to Austin 170km).

Yeah there is someone as nutty as you.

I go to the gym 4-6 times a week, mind you I've only been lifting a year. I ran in highschool so I had no need to start lifting then (distance=less weight the better), but all my friends did (they played football) and its a real pain trying to catch up.

My first goal was to bench my weight (got it, 185) then moved on to get to 200 (as my max in my mind, only problem is I was working out with 185) It was a great big surprise when I realized one day that I was working out with 205, that was my goal!!! Now I'm passed that, and just want to keep going.

I now bench (work out with) 215 and 225 on heavy days, but feel that I could probaby only max 245 (you must remember I'm small framed, runner framed.

Why do I work out, to keep in shape, I got really small arms (not as much now) I look like a runner. I wanted to get passed that, and now I am doing just that.
That and the girls at Golds Gym are Supa Fly

I would love to power lift but I am too weak.

I am 5'8 155lbs, 21 yrs old.

Bench 265
Squat 285

It's sad also when you see a high school kid can bench more than you and then go to the squat rack and do 545 lbs. Yes 545 lbs, 5 45 plates on each side and a 25 plate.

I hit up the gym 4-5 times a week. Never to compete, just to improve and make myself stronger. Big Ben, you're right when you say it's relaxing to be in the gym. I don't think about anything else when I am lifting. I love it.

The problem I have now is that I don't know if I can ever stop! I'm 23 and have been lifting (seriously) for 2 years now. If I compare what I was then with what I am now, it blows my mind! Everytime I can't get to the gym, I just think about the backslide that could eventually lead to. All that hard work down the crapper! Looks like I'll be hitting the weights for the rest of my life! D'oh!

What really impresses me are the people in this thread who are much smaller than me, but can lift as much! I'm 6'1" 210lbs, and can bench 225 and squat 255. If you're 5'5" and can do the same (or more), that's a great achievement for you!

Us small stocky guys have leverage on our sides. But people that are your size actually have more potential for size gains than we will ever have. But size doesn't always equal strength. Most body builders aren't super strong compared to the way they look.

The tall guys carry it well though. (Appearance-wise I mean).
