anyone ever encounter with ghost??
Haha, this thread is GREAT
I respect the skeptics here. My dad is an engineer and therefore a realist. My bro takes after him. I guess I am more "open" to possibilities. I don't pretend to know what they are, but I know they are weird as hell.
And so it continues....
Episode II
----------------------------
After our first experience, the boys in the band kinda got interested in this supernatural stuff. We decided we were going to buy a Ouija board one night and take it to the old Spanish Fort, which is a ruin near Lake Ponchartrain in the lakefront area of New Orleans. I guess years ago there was an actual Spanish Forth there, so we figured it might have a little bit of "spiritual history" so to speak.
John, Joe, and myself head out to the area and start using the board. I never really believed in these Ouija things. I used them once or twice before, but always suspected someone of moving the little eyepiece thing. Anyway, we started asking questions and immediately got a response from the board. Whatever it was that communicated with us said her name was Joan and she was burned as a witch. We think Joan of Arc right... she says no, different Joan. At any rate, she took a real liking to John. She was all flirty with him and stuff so we think it's him just playing around. So Joe tries to look at his watch and see what time it is. When he looks at his wrist he notices his watch is gone. After cursing up a storm, Joan says she will tell him where it is. She gave us directions, which we then called out to Joe and he went wandering off in the dark. "Walk forward until we say stop!" "Turn to your immediate left." "Walk forward some more". We continued like this for about 5 minutes until he was about 50 feet from us. "Stop" the board commanded. "Look down in the grass!" and there was his watch, with the band broken, lying in the grass at his feet.
We continued on through the night, until something else took over the board with a really hostile personality. It said awful things, moved vigorously, and said that we were cursed. We didn't really believe it, but something inside me worried that we might end up in a car accident or something on the way home. After our first experience in the house, I didn't really know the extent of physical manipulation that these "spirits" were capable of. So we decide to call it a night and head home.
Joe and I were roommates at the time, so we get home and hear the phone ringing as we walk through the door. I go to the phone and pick it up. As soon as I answer it, the caller hung up. I look at our answering machine and it is blinking, but locked up (kinda like when your computer freezes). That has never happened before and I had to unplug the adapter to get it to reset. The phone rings again and I say "HELLO!?" and I hear "Hello?" on the other end. It's John. I asked him what he wanted and he asked me the same thing. I told him he called me and he said no, we called him. I said no, the phone rang here and he said the phone rang at his house too. We decided we were both lying and playing jokes, so we hung up. The phone rings again. This time we both answer frustrated with the other for playing jokes. Again, both of us accused the other of calling. We hang up. The phone rings again, this time his folks answer and complain because we are calling them at such a late hour (like 1 am or something at this point.) I apologize but insist that we are not calling him. The phones are ringing at both houses and somehow we are connected. They hang up pissed, of course, not believing us.
The next hour went by, the phone ringing nonstop and driving us crazy. I did not think to unplug all the phones (you tend to get rattled by things like this). Each time I answered the phone, I either got hung up on, heard silence, or received very strange sounds over the line that phones don't normally make. At this point I'm pretty scared, remembering the curse and thinking that I'm being spied on by some kind of nasty unseen thing, so I call my mom and ask her what to do (she is very religious). While I'm on the phone with her, explaining that the Devil is after me, we could hear the other line chiming in nonstop. It was beeping and clicking and seriously interrupting our conversation. At any rate, she tells me to pray. I hand up and run to my room and start praying. I'm thinking to myself "God, just make all this stop and I swear I'll never play witn a Ouija board again." As soon as I was done praying, it all stopped.
I am not a terribly religious man... but whatever I said worked. Unfortunately, I never kept up my end of the bargain.
Another comment I'd like to make about not thinking clearly under the stress of the situation, I should have checked the dates on the coins from our first encounter, but that was not something I thought of until days after the encounter.

...AND WHO'S STEPHEN KING?!?!?
j/k
OK, I've never shared this 'cause it gives me the willies. I went to Japan as part of the JET (Japan Exchange Teaching) program for two years in '93. Was assigned to teach on Yakushima Island, about a 4hr ferry ride south of Kyushu. This is a very low income part of Japan; Kagoshima is the 2nd poorest Prefecture, and Yakushima is one of the poorest towns.
This is why I didn't question the price on my Ministry of Education subsidized apt, about $50/month. No hot water, no flush toliet, no heat, but most of the apts around were just the same. Well, after about 3 months of odd things, I started having severe night frights. I'd sleep with my head near the screen door with the glass door open so I could hear the surf (ocean was about 30 meters away).
The first time, I heard the screen door open, and my whole body was paralyzed with frieght. I could open my eyes, but not move. Heard the screen door close, and saw an old ladies legs with an old, pale blue nightgown walk by right next to me. The night terrors are the worst, 'cause I'd want to jump up, attack the intruder, whatever, but until she passed into the other room, I couldn't move, scream, nothing. Then all at once it would go away and I'd snap up gasping. NO WAY I could sleep after that. Had to go on loooong midnight walks to calm down.
After the 3rd time of this exact same thing happening, I mentioned to a local friend that I didn't like that apartment. He was very curious and started asking questions, then told me a story. The previous occupant was an old lady that died right were I slept on my futon!!!! What's worse, with no family and few friends, her body wasn't found for 4 or 5 days. So no locals would go near that apt. It was empty for 2 years before they put me in there. The $50/month was NOT subsidized as they told me. It was the going rate for that apt. The others apts in the same building were $300/month.
That exact same thing happend 6 times over the course of 2 years. And two times I felt a hand touch the back of my neck while watching TV. Plus lots of other things like coming home to find lights on (one's I NEVER used, like inside a storage closet). Things not were I left them. Some of this was probably my legendary absent mindedness, but not all.

ok, all these stories are creeping me out... i've got one that's not really a ghost story, but i think it fits with the theme....
a couple of years ago, i was driving home from my friend's house at about 2am. i turn onto a nicely paved back road that i have to take for about 5 miles... i get on the gas and start rowing through the gears of my talon... just as i pass 100mph, i see something out of the corner of my eye that makes me back down... as i drive by the spot, i realize that it was just a rabbit or some other small animal exiting the road into a field... so now i'm doing about 70 and i see something much bigger on my side of the road about 100 ft in front of me... i really start slowing down as i watch a deer hop off the road into a field... now i've slowed to about 30 and my eyes are scanning the fields, the road, everything looking for more deer, or whatever is next... my eyes fall back on the road in front of me, and my foot instinctively mashes the brake, bringing me to a screeching halt....
about 15 feet in front of me, almost completely invisible in the darkness of the night, is a freight train cruising along the tracks... the gates are up, the warning lights are off, but the train is there...
i sat motionless for 5 minutes after the train went by before i could move again... and at that point i crept up to the track with my windows down and listened carefully for about 30 seconds before i ccould convince myself to cross... i was terrified
i agree that this could have just been a lucky series of coincidences, but i honestly believe that somebody was watching my a$$ that night... and i am thankful...
i'm much older and wiser now, and don't drive like that anymore.... on backroads
