anyone fly on an airplane recently?
All the planes are so overbooked and full these days that unless you're flying 1st class or throw all the old people aside to be the first on the plane, there will be no overhead room left anyway.
Been flying for work about every other week for the last year and there is no overhead room left after the first 10 rows or so.
I just check anything that can't go under the seat now.

I fly 2-3 times/week, and have done so for the past 4 years.
You can take one carry-on bag (your 21" bag is ok), plus one "personal" bag (computer bag, purse, backpack). The garment bag is pushing it, but might be worth a shot so as not to have to check anything. For the most part, the closets are reserved for 1st class passengers only (esp. in the winter, when everyone wears a coat).
The TSA isn't supposed to even let you past the security checkpoint with more than 2 bags of any kind. . . though I rarely have a problem if I have my roller bag, my computer bag, and a plastic bag full of dirty laundry.
Wear the suit on the plane. You'll get treated much more nicely if you dress well when flying.

last time i flew was in feb 06. all domestic some very small and some pretty decent size. worst case is flight attendant will say you will have to check that in and when you arrive they will give it to you as soon as you get off the plane.
Depends entirely on the airline. I fly a lot, internationally, Asia, USA, Europe...
I find Easyjet to be relatively lenient, I've even take two bags with me on occasion, one roughly 40 inches tall and about 40-50lbs and nobody cared.
Long haul flights are usually another story, and it's best to carry the bare minimum with you in the cabin.
