Let me know some details if you have had laser vision correction.

How much? How effective.

Thanks!

I know many people who have gotten it done. All successful and they all love it. If I understand it correctly, it may not be 100% succesful on the first try. My friend chose to pay the insurance for $50. It allowed him to have it done again at no charge if his eyes needed a second treatment. If my memory serves me correctly it ran about $1300. He said he could see right away, but his eyes were a bit uncomfortable for a bit. Needless to say, you will want a driver.

BTW - It was A LOT cheaper to have it done in Canada than the states. From OR it's not that far away, but from TX that's one hell of a trip.

Had it done in February, and it's one of the greatest things I've ever done. I could see better getting off the table than I could normally without my glasses (itchy eyes for 12 hours or so though).

I went for a follow-up about 18 hours after the surgery, and I was seeing 20/15. Simply amazing. After only about 8-10 months now, it seems as though I never wore glasses (looking at pictures with glasses on seems funny).

The only side effect I can report is that I now use eye drops on a semi-daily basis whereas I never did before.

I had mine done at a Lasik Plus doctor. Lasik Plus is sort of a chain, but not really. Basically it's really more of a marketing effort, where local doctors that were already doing Lasik sign up to get the benefits of national advertising and all. The cost for me was about 2K, though the place I went to had it available for as little as 1K. Basically, they examined me and then said "well it's $500 an eye (as advertised) with the OLD laser, or 1K an eye for the really good new one". Well, after thinking "well it's only my eyes" for a sec, I of course opted for the new one. A large part of this decision though was that I have astigmatism which is more difficult to correct with the VISX laser (old one, vs. the Baush & Lomb floating spot laser).

My husband had it about 1.5 years ago. He decided lasik was better than bifocals. His lasik was 100% successful, he went to work the next day, and doesn't need glasses now at all. It cost about $3K, but I understand it's cheaper now.

$1400 for both eyes (through insurance), done 2 years ago, 20/15 BABY!!!

Well worth the price of admission if you are a qualified applicant, and be warned, there are many who are not so don't go to any tom, dick or harry who's willing to do an operation just to get the dough.

You may want to do a search on this. Someone else asked this same question a few months back and we had a long thread about it. In any case, I had it done about two years ago. I couldn't handle wearing glasses. I haven't had to wear glasses (except shades ) since the operation and I have 20/15 vision in both eyes. When researching a doctor to perform the operation the big thing (besides the doctor being a good doctor) is the number of Lasik procedures he/she has performed. Most Lasik procedures that go awry do so because of the relative inexperience of the doctor performing the operation. Obviously, you don't want to be part of some doctors learning curve.

I did a lot of research and asked around a LOT before I had it done in June 2000. I chose my surgeon based on his experience, both in terms of people I know who had used him, number of procedures, length of time doing it, and certifications. I had severe enough astigmatism that they weren't sure if it could even be done successfully for me, so it was important to me that they get it right the first time.

Notably, I believe that you get what you pay for, so going for the least expensive doctor wasn't in my list of important items at all. I went to the most reputable and highly recommended doctor in the area and paid $5000 for both eyes with no complications, no "touchups," no discomfort after the first night, and the $5000 included followup visits for a year to monitor progress. I'll probably need reading glasses sooner or later, but that was to be expected. All in all, I'm happy!

I had it done 4 years ago by a doctor in my town that had been practicing the technique in Canada and Columbia for about 8 years. I have had great success with the results. My eyes were very bad to start and now I have great vision. I was one the first people here in the states to have the procedure done using the "new" program and machine that actually tracked the eye while zapping it.
My only suggestion is not to use a doctor that has coupons in the paper and make sure he/she is also a eye surgeon. The procedure can be done by an eye doctor that isn't a surgeon; but, I wouldn't advise using one that isn't. Just my .02

i had it done back in sept. my contact lens prescription was -4.25 and -6.25 before the surgery.. i paid $2000 for the stars3 laser for both eyes, and im very pleased with my results. my left eye is 20/20 and my right is 20/15. the 15 minutes of uncomfort during the surgery and then the 3 months of being very careful is well worth it. minutes after my surgery i hopped into a cab with the "eye cups" and sunglasses on, and i noticed that i could see! not clearly, but i could see without the aid of contacts nor glasses. the next morning i got up and instinctively walked into the bathroom to put in my lenses.. but wait, i dont have to wear them anymore! i jumped back into bed and looked at the alarm clock.. 7:00 in big red letters that were crystal clear!

if you have the opportunity and the means to have this proceedure done, i highly recommend it. just choose your surgeon wisely. if youre in the nyc area and youre interested in lasik, lettme know and i'll send you to my doctor. at most lasik centers you'll meet deal with two different doctors, the one that you see in the beginning and for your followups, and then the surgeon. at the place i went to the doctor that gives the consultation, the surgery, and the followups are performed by the same person. which has many more advantages than two or three different physicians.

good luck,
brian
