Anyone here have lasik to fix their vision?
Anyone who's in the California area mind naming their doctor who performed the lasik surgery on them?
I'd very much appreciate because I plan on doing this very soon, with my glasses and constant staring my monitor (comp sci major), I'm about go blind.
btw phantom, great thread and thanks to everyone for replying.

I went to "Aris Vision" up here in the Bay Area but they have locations all around. While in for my prelim exam I saw them turn away 2 people because they didn't qualify for any sort of operation (lasik or intacts), *that* is the sign of a good doctor.

I went for a follow-up about 18 hours after the surgery, and I was seeing 20/15. Simply amazing. After only about 8-10 months now, it seems as though I never wore glasses (looking at pictures with glasses on seems funny).
The only side effect I can report is that I now use eye drops on a semi-daily basis whereas I never did before.
I had mine done at a Lasik Plus doctor. Lasik Plus is sort of a chain, but not really. Basically it's really more of a marketing effort, where local doctors that were already doing Lasik sign up to get the benefits of national advertising and all. The cost for me was about 2K, though the place I went to had it available for as little as 1K. Basically, they examined me and then said "well it's $500 an eye (as advertised) with the OLD laser, or 1K an eye for the really good new one". Well, after thinking "well it's only my eyes" for a sec, I of course opted for the new one. A large part of this decision though was that I have astigmatism which is more difficult to correct with the VISX laser (old one, vs. the Baush & Lomb floating spot laser).

if youre considering doing this, try to stay away from anywhere you see offering coupons or discounts for lasik. what theyre trying to do is get the surgeons more people under their belts.. do you really wanna be a test dummy? go find someone respectable.. and also check out the laser.. i used a stars3 tracking laser.. its supposed to be one of the best. it follows your eye movements as it applies the laser.
dood, it's the best money i ever spent, other than buying a central air unit for my house. 10 minutes each eye. i think i paid $2900 several years ago. what they do is use computers to make a C incission on your cornea. then they lift up that flap and irrigate it. then they shoot a laser(s) at 45 degrees angle to work your eye. the flap will be healed in a year and your vision improves for like a whole month or something like that. there's little pain, but some discomfort after the procedure. afterwards, just take some codine and go to sleep for awhile and you'll be fine. i can't stand glasses or contacts so this works good for me.
