I am thinking of getting one. Need to know owner inputs on the car.

1)Reliability
2)Depreciation

I am asking because I am graduating next year and going back to my country; hoping that it will be fun filled year for me and the Caterham with the S2000 as a backup. Don't want any big problems nor nor take a hit with depreciation since it is such a specialized vehicle.

I am buying it new by the way, so I hope that would help eliminate some problems that generally arises with second hand cars.

For those that are interested, the Caterham will be the closet thing to a Formula one car you can get on the road legally, IMHO. More info can be seen at http://www.uscaterham.com/

regards

haven't seen one on the road, I did see one at texas world speedway back in february running out there. not sure of the model. but being new - you do know this is a kit, right? you might want to look around for someone who has put together most of it and given up on it - sometimes people will just part with their half finished projects for dirt cheap. just a suggestion.

I want one.... but... they are damned expensive for a 1000lb car... i want the R500 though...

There are a couple of real Caterhams that show up at the Harrisburg, PA auto-x.

goodluck!

Unfortunately, I am mechanically retarded having no experinece working on cars whatsoever. All I know is drive. Please don't take me for a snob cause I am not, just didn't have the opportunity to learn where I came from.

The "biggest" thing I have done on a car myself was change the ecu on the S2000 and I was so proud of myself afterwards; to give you guys an idea how handicapped I am. So I think buying a kit is out of the question.

The Caterham can be bought fully assembled. I am hoping that there won't be a big problem as I don't trust any mechanics around my area. The one I go to for the S2000 is over an hour's drive away. So having a problematic car is out of the question.

I know the Caterham is handbuilt and British make to boot, so reliability is not its strong suit. I am just hoping that it would fair better that the Lotus Esprit that I owned a year back.

I rode in one at the last trackday and it was a BLAST. VERY fast around Thunderhill and the thing griped like glue. Yes, barely enough room for two in the cockpit and so low that rocks were hitting my helmet off the front tire. I was looking at the bumper of the S2000 during pre grid.

I'd say get it and paint it the same colors as "The Prisoner's" Super 7.

And it is the only car that I know to come in a box! Talk about it being a toy.

Come on everyone, not a single Caterham owner?

Saw one at the autox in Frederick, MD today. Looked like fun. Wasn't really faster than many others, though.
