I have to correct SeaDoXPL for correcting the other guy...

4 strokes are far more fuel efficient that a 2 stroke, plus no oil burning. With a 14.xx gal tank, the 1200 is rated to at least 75 miles at WOT.

That is a lot. Now I've never ridin 75 miles at one sitting, but I've put more than that to a tank of gas when not running at WOT.

The revs are also relatively low on the Kawa. It redlines around 7K, which prolongs motor life. The supercharged seadoo and turbo Honda do have more power, but I personally like not having to worry about a blower or turbo to maintain.

I guess it's really up to personal choice and $$$

You can start around $5K for a smaller 2 stroke new,

This is a great site for all kinds of ski related info.

www.sea-doo.net

The guy that owns the site makes wicked fast skis. They took the new sea-doo RXP which is supercharged and intercooled and took it to 84mph (i think it was on nitrous) on radar before it grenaded strictly for the sake of R&D. That guy knows his stuff!

Sea-doo did have problems on the 98-00 947cc engines b/c of an exhaust flange leak which blew water into the carbs and hydrolocked it. They have since fixed that and make a fairly bulletproof ski. They are the only ski I would ever buy. I had a 95spx and 95sp, changed the pump oil on them every so often and kept new plugs/gas/oil in them and they ran like a top. Sold em this year.

Are 4 strokes more? Any benefit other than mileage/smog?

Also any good online stores to get prices? Are they like cars or do they really stick to MSRP?

Another questions, if I come across a used one, how can you compare miles to hours? What is high?

Thanks

Dave

Hey big body....go to the website i was talking about and there will be a link for Perry Performance Group. They own sea-doo.net. They are in Dania, FL so they may be close to you. Call them and they will get you set up be it used or new. If I was in FL, it would be the ONLY place I would go to buy/service skis.

As for the four strokes, they are the future. Two strokes won't be around for a whole lot longer IMHO. They are making massive power out of the fours. The new sea-doo RXP is making i think around 215hp from the factory!!!

If you dont hear back from them for a few days, dont worry. They are closed mondays and are usually really really busy. You might be better off just giving them a call on Tues.

Did 2000 see doos have problems? There is a guy in my city selling one that seems very nice.

Until recently I had a 166 HP Waverunner Limited Edition 3 Seater 1200cc. Blinding speed and handled well due to the V shape bow design and upgraded sponsons.

According to many of the jet ski shops here the Yamahas need rebuilding less often than some of the other brands.

Here's my opinion on purchasing a jet ski. Buy a reputable brand second hand that has less than 40 hours on it and you'll save 1/3 of the price off a new one.

I still think I would go for a 2 stroke if I were to purchase again.

PS. To answer your question about hours/mileage, 40 hours on a jet ski is about 2 services. It took me 2 summers to accumulate 40 hours of running time. A jet ski with over 40 hours of running time on it will fetch less dollars than one with less than 40 hours. 40 hours is quite a bit of running time on the water.

hours on a boat are similar to miles on a car. it just tells you how much use they have had. I think the 2000 GTX had a little info center thing that *might show the hours. Otherwise a dealer can read the MPEM module and tell you for sure. Also, that guy is nuts if he thinks his GTX runs 68mph. He may say he GPS'd it, but it is seriously off.

I think the 2000 947cc engine may have had the exhaust diaper upgrade done to it, but you need to check on sea-doo.net to be sure. Essentially what it was was a new heavy flange put on to prevent water from spraying into the carbs. If you go w/ this one, I would find that out first. Really though, being as close as you are to PPG, I would talk to them first about buying a used boat. I think they give warranties w/ their used boats, and aren't known to gouge people at all. They have really helped boost the sport. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore ???'s.
