Anyone S2K Owners into Home Theater
Laird, very nice setup. I'd be interested in hearing more about your components.
My setup includes the following:
Front(L/R) Speakers: B&W Nautilus 804
Center Speaker: B&W Nautilus HTM2
Rear Speakers: B&W CDMSNT (wall mounted)
Sub: Paradigm PW2200
Pre-Amp: Marantz AV-9000
Amps: (3) Marantz MA-700 monoblocks & (2) Marantz MA-6100 monoblocks
DVD: Toshiba SD2200 (I've had this for a while actually)
Projector: Infocus LP350 1024X768 DLP
Screen: Da-Lite 96" Imager
I've had it all in place for a few weeks now and am extremely happy with it. The speakers are a real standout that I purchased for their musical qualities, however, work beautifully for movies. The projector search was even more agonizing, however, I don't regret that for a second.
I too am waiting to get a HD tuner. Doesn't seem to be much of a hurry unless you are a huge JAG or Leno fan.

Those are sharp systems. I've been shopping the Fujitsu plasma and not sure about sound yet. I went to one place and their prices started at $1000 and went up to over 50,000. The $50,000 audio set-up sounded really sweet. I got out of there in a hurry! Choices will largely depend on how things are arranged in the living room. I actually broke down and bought my husband a recliner (shudder) so I think I've earned some leeway on an AV system
.
Also hoping by the time I can get around to some serious shopping that tv's will standardized in screen size and hdtv format.
Oh and nice touch with a nearby bar Laird. I'm thinking about adding one of those popcorn machines on wheels.

"Laird, very nice setup. I'd be interested in hearing more about your components."
All of my components are built in. What the pictures don't show is a built-in component rack with a smoked glass door to the right of the screen and the speakers.
The TV is a rear projection Toshiba in the 16x9 aspect. It was installed in a walkin closet with only the screen showing through the wall. The TV is like a monitor and will display 1200 lines of resolution and also has a built-in line doubler. It has two component inputs for super clear reproduction with more vibrant colors for HDTV and the progressive scan DVD player. None of the TV speakers are used.
My TV reception is currently with DIRECT TV through a RCA satellite (DBS)receiver that decodes 5.1 sound. I have all CHIRO sound equipment that includes a five channel amplifier, a preamplifier and a combination Dolby Digital(5.1)and DTS decoder. All THX certified.
The speakers are all Trident THX certified GOld series. There are the center, RHS and LHS speakers on the front wall and two rear surround speakers mounted in the ceiling. There are also two Trident powered subwoofers mounted on the front wall. In addition there is a Toshiba VCR that has only been used once and a progressive scan Toshiba SD9100 DVD player. The progressive scan player puts out almost 500 lines of resolution. HDTV is twice that. Some discs are so clear that it is almost 3D like.
As you can tell, I am an electronics nut and we entertain with movies, especially in the winter. The entire room cost about a tricked out Boxster S.

Hey Laird, I don't know if you're willing to switch to Dish Network (assuming you have DirecTV since you mention recievers compatible with DirecTV) but... I've had an Echostar 6000, which has component out, for a while now and Dishnetwork has one HD PPV, on HD Showtime one HD HBO, and an HD demo channel. The OTA module should be out in the next week or two also. If you did want to stick with DirecTV I also saw that RCA just came out with a VGA-to-component converter for the DTC100. Here is a blurb about it at Etown.com
And Scott, it's kind of funny, the S2000 is the first thing to divert my attention from my HT addiction in a while

Rodney:
I like the NFL package on Direct TV which Dish does not have...other than that, I have been watching the news on the OTA chip for the Dish 6000. I would probably go with the RCA and the converter if the Hughes set-top boxes don't come out by SuperBowl. The OTA aspect is very important since Cincinnati has a couple of stations broadcasting in HDTV. It is also rumored that RCA will be coming out with a box to compete with the new Hughes box and will have component inputs. Hughes makes the Mits and the Toshiba box also, plus Panasonic will have a box. They just keep getting delayed which is driving us HDTV nuts up the wall.

Well, we won't have any OTA stations until spring but the three channels I've been watching on Dishnetwork are really sweet. I've got a Sony KP-53XBR300 that I'm watching on. BTW, I just read on the hometheater forum that the software for the E* 6000 which enables the OTA functions is now ready for download and that the OTA module is now shipping... in case you do end up wanting to go that route.
