Default Anyone use Champix or Chantix

Doc gave me a prescription for the Canadian version of Chantix, known as Champix here. Curious to know if anyone has used this drug to assist them in quitting smoking.

Been smoking for about 13 years, with roughly 7 or 8 of those being roughly a pack day.

It helps you get over the physical addiction pretty easily. After a couple of weeks, you'll be totally unable to satisfy your nicotine cravings, and you'll go through the physical withdrawal no matter what.

The habit is what always gets me. I feel so weird not smoking. I've beaten it physically countless times.

You will have some pretty whacky dreams too. That's the best part.

GL
My friends who were successful quit cold turkey because they broke all the habits that they associated with smoking. It was really tough and we (their friends) had to be very supportive throughout the entire process, no matter how pissed off or frustrated they got.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I've decided I'm still going to go outside to enjoy being away from my desk for a few minutes in the morning and aft, but not smoke. I don't have any buddies that I smoke with, and in fact have someone who usually comes out and doesn't smoke.

So that's my office routine covered, and at home my girlfriend can't stand me smoking anyway, so I have the encouragement there that I need

What kind of crazy dreams??

Might pick up some of those small dum-dum suckers. You'll really be itching to stick something in your mouth, and Tuna may not always be available.

But it sounds like you're on the right track. Prepare to quit by changing your smoking habits now. Don't smoke when you normally do.

As far as the dreams - They're just crazy, and you'll remember them longer. I had dreams like zombies taking over Russia.

My boss tried it for a while. The physical addiction is the easiest part to kick, it's the habitual part that is hard, and Chantix won't do shit for that.

He got down to a couple smokes a day, then maybe even 3 or 4 days with out. After that he started ramping up again and back to a pack a day.

He blames me, but we both know the smokes beat him. I prefer to avoid failure by not trying

Good luck Mikey, you'll be better off.

Just really...realllllly want to quit. If you're wishy washy, you might as well spend the Chantix money on smokes.

Try e-cigs. You have the nicotine fix but without the carcogens. My wife used it and quit within three months.

In the States, Chantix comes with a telephone help line too. There's also Quitplan.com. When used with the medication it can increase chance of 1-year durable quit up to 80%.

Hey Mikey! Yeah, fortunately nobody I hang out with smokes anymore so that should be easier to avoid the association with certain people or activities.

I think I'm a few weeks out still, haven't fully gotten my smoke need out of my system yet. But I'm damn close.

I will look at some other options as well for support or guidance, or whatever it is they do. Thanks CKit.
