So I was cruzing the board today and I saw a member had used an image of Hitler to advertise a website.
I found this to be inappropriate in my view so I IM'd the member and asked if he/she would remove it.
We had been discussing it and wish to include the rest of the group in the talk....
So what do you all think?
Im sure the other half of the discussion will join in and share his view...

 

Depending on the context, I would say no

 

its no more/less inappropriate than using an image of anyone else from history.

it also depends what the website promotes. if the site promotes facism or anti-semitism, it probably shouldn't be used. However, if the website is in anyway objective with regards to history, leaders, WWII, etc. it should be used.

It is, after all, a free country. If you are offended by the picture, you are free not to look at it.

The history of this pic has to do with several of "us" who are friends through this board, making a friend over at the my350z.com board. Last week we all went over to the board and started a thread we could post in and chat it up with 350z owners. It's a convoluted story on what happened and I actually wasn't there for whatever went down, but the site admin named several of us as being unwelcome there because of the amount we posted and deleted our posts. I pm'd him saying I was disappointed in his handling of the situation, deleting our post and calling us out by name, after we were given the okay to post in that thread by two of their mods. He responded by banning me. At no time was I contacted directly to address any problem, nor was my PM returned. Well, he's the boss and that's fine if that is how he want's to run the site, but this is what I think of him.





please discuss this. I am not offended by those who disagree with my statement for whatever reason, other than my basic right to freedom of speech. In the end I have to abide by what cthree and company would say because it's his house, and I admit to routinely pushing the envelope.

I see no problem with its use in that context. Heck, I have a shirt with a picture of Hitler on it that says "All in favor of gun control, raise your right hand"

 

To be honest, a picture of Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, satan...whoever you want is not inherently inappropriate for this forum. Granted, sometimes it helps to understand the context of WHY the pic is posted, but unless it's Hitler stark naked there's nothing in the RULES that would deem it inappropriate.

As for the context of this specific issue, I was one of the people that wandered over to my350z.com and was, amazingly, not banned, though I was subject to the same behavior from the administrator of the board that wicky was.

wicky chose to express his opinion by making that avatar...I simply refer to the admin over there as Mussolini the Mod.

Integrate, the issue isn't whether it's offensive so much as whether it's appropriate.

I agree that people not knowing the story will lead to conflict, but conflict isn't in and of itself inappropriate on the board.

 

Oh, and as for being offensive to people on my350z.com, that hasn't been entirely the case. Hard to generalize in situations like this...but I know what you were trying to say...
