Default Asian men in the media (Yul on survivor)

was discussing with a friend today:

for any of those who watch or heard the news about survivor winner, Yul, Kwon, this would apprear to be a considerable victory for asian men in the media and society.

do you think it helped? how much and in what ways?

i personally think the guy played a great game, but was too cold and robotic. his victory was tainted by others commenting that he had a percentage calculator in his head, making him look like a nerd.
---------------------------------------
an additional topic for discussion:

do asian men deserve to be equal in the eyes of women? i have to admit that i know many "weak" asian men who do not command respect and while there are those types in every race, it makes you wonder if asians are more passive and less dominant than other males.

Equal to what? Other races? Are you trying to start a flame war here?

as a woman, all men have the opportunity to get my respect, whether they do or not is another issue.

Passive Asians? Sounds like a pretty ethnocentric comment to me. What passes for aggresive behavior varies wildly by culture. What kind of women are you talking about?

its pretty funny hearing this from a person who lives in so cal.

i believe it influenced positively due to the fact that Yul was a smart, intelligent, and sexy character in the show which is very different from a typical asian male role on TV. This is just another step to educate general viewers about asian americans and there will be more to come.
