Default att vs verizon/other cell phone carriers

today, cnet showed a bunch of side by side test showing how slow att is compared to verizon.

does anyone have technical knowledge about why att lags so much? is it a gsm vs cdma issue? is it too many users? or is att not doing something right that would fix the problem?

anyone know?

Actually At&t's 3G network is significantly faster than Verizon's. So not sure what you're talking about.

Verizon's 4G network is faster, but there's not currently any phones out that support that.

Here is a side by side of tests done with the iPhone on both networks. Verizon is more consistent, but ATT is much faster.

ATT - 3g network, plus coverage sucks even worse for 4g
Verizon- 4G network, coverage almost everywhere verizon is cheaper without a doubt would stay with verizon because customer support is very nice and will work out anything with you.

Locally here (northeast Alabama) AT&T sucks for coverage. They may have a faster network but speed doesn't matter if you don't have the coverage. My droid 3g is plenty fast enough for what I use it for.

AT&T's 3G network is faster than any other network out there... even faster than Sprint and T-mobile's 4G networks.

"which is better" depends on where you live. I had great coverage in Texas with Sprint and Verizon... Sprint doesn't work where my family lives in North Carolina, so they switched to Verizon...

Out here in Utah where I live, AT&T has by far the best coverage... I've lived in 4 different houses here in Salt Lake City, and worked at 4 different places...

Sprint worked at 3 jobs and 3 houses.
Verizon worked at 1 job and 2 houses.
AT&T has worked everywhere I've been in SLC...

But like I said, it all depends... Verizon seemed to have better coverage for me in the South... and yes, I have a Verizon phone, AT&T phone, and Sprint phone... don't ask... lol
