It is on order and should have it next month...they seem to be pretty fast. I have not spent alot of time behind the wheel of one.. RT has a '01 S4. He likes it alot. For me the S4 was a logical choice. it was between the S4 and 330i. I will be driving it mostly in bad weather.

Hey-

The Audi S4 is not that slow. In fact, it has really good potential- they are raced with some success at the GT level of the SCCA Speedvision Cup. I'm sure they are also raced in other series, but I honestly didn't bother to ever look.

I always lusted after the Audi RS2- Porsche built, 250HP twin turbo V6, wagon body, Porsche brakes, absolutely awesome stealth car. The S4 is coming as an Avant too now in the US... I wonder if it'll stir the same feelings now there are so many other choices in our market. Of course, if all I wanted was unobtanium, I can pine for a RS4...

The biggest problem I have with Audis is that they are unreliable. At least, my sister's A4 1.8T was. It was so bad the dealer swapped her car with a brand new one a year and a half into ownership.

Thats a good question. I still think I would go with the S4. My wife on the other hand was kind of disappointed I didn't go with the BMW. I like the looks of the 3-series BMW more than the S4 but I think performance wise the S4 is better.

Seems like it's general knowledge that the S4 is fast because it can be chipped/modded easily. I'm sure a lot of women are just like your wife and would pick it over the S4 9 times out of 10. But you gotta love the performance characteristics.

I rank S4 into my choice cars list: F355, M5, CLK55 AMG, Supra TT and a few others. It's up in that stratosphere. The only detraction is that its styling short changes its awesome performance. It loses a lot in the head-turning department.

Either way, you couldn't go wrong.

Audis are among the least reliable (long term) cars made.

During the first year or two they're great and it goes dramatically downhill from there. Plus they are very expensive to repair. You won't realize how spoiled you've been by Honda reliability until you get an Audi.

If you can't resist, do yourself a favor and lease. You'll be glad you did!

S2000 Driver, why not give credit where credit's due? Of the three guys I know in Seattle who drive S4s, they have had no problems whatsoever.

Honda reliability? What about the problems with the S2000? Yes, 7 people on this board, but to the S2000 foreigner, 7 too many.

People who don't really know this car would say, "damn, I knew that high-revving engine would cause problems." I think the majority of the people on this board, however, understand that these problems do not accurately depict the reliability of these cars.

S4's awesome. Simple as that. You take care of your car, it'll take care of you.

From what I understand from my Audi dealer all scheduled maintenance is free of charge including oil, wiper blades, lights..the only thing that isn't is the tires. I believe it has a 4 yr/50,000 warranty. Please correct me if I am wrong. So i am not sure how it could be that expensive...certainly not as expensive to maintain as a BMW. I don't plan on having it more than a few years anyway. I have my eyes set on a '01 E55 AMG that will probably have less then 20K miles when it is available to me in '03 or '04. The guy who drives it had a '97 540i and got rid of it for the E55 and that car had less than 15K miles on it.
