Audio cable ?
I totally disagree. Based on the OPs post, I concluded that he has a stereo.. i.e. a receiver and speakers. The speakers in a $200 HTIB are going to be horrible... The only worse speakers on the planet will be inside your TV.. or in a kid's toy that makes animal sounds. His current speakers will undoubedtly be better.. a pair of cheap bookshelves from walmart will be better. So the best solution is to upgrade the receiver.. buy this http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-sto...er-BLACK/1.html and get a TOSLINK optical audio cable to go from the TV's digital out to the receiver.. Don't be afraid of refurbs.

So I guess my Yamaha speakers I got as part of my HTIB are no better than Walmart specials. Hmmm.
The Onkyo speakers in the s3100 are going to be crap too eh? I'll tell ya, I listened to them in the store and they were damn good for the money.
You really need to temper your recommendations to the audience at hand.
Because it is an absolute. The speakers in inexpensive HTIB setups are poor. $150-200 of the price of any HTIB over $200-300 is going towards the receiver. The rest will be divided amoung 5-7 speakers and the sub. Do the math.
My recommendation is to upgrade and use what he already has.. not buy some crap he doesn't need so he can get worse sound.
