Audio Enthusiasts - Show off your rigs!
I have a bose lifestyle 12 or 17 or some number... it is about 8 years old and has a a single cd player, 5 double cubes and a powered subwoofer... besides that I know nothing about it...
i know I have a sony Wega 50" tv that i can't seem to hook up to go through the Bose system.... i should just pay someone to hook it up properly.... Luckily when i had my house built i had the wires installed for the speakers so at least they look neat hanging up there.
O ya... i never heard of stereo stuff called "RIG"s... I always thought my Rig was my crank.....?

I'm not sure if it's an accepted term or not, but I took to calling mine a rig to keep from calling it a "system" or similar. Unfortunately, no matter what I call it, people just didn't understand until they saw it. The seemed to think that it was a big bass system or something...

It seems that "Rig" is a relatively new term, probably adopted within the last 10 years or less, when referring to stereo or home theater systems. IMO it downgrades the complexity of the systems.
system
The use of Rig and System is more of a slang term so it's tough to say how the fundamental definitions apply. I had always drawn an association between a rigging crew that would set up stage systems, where they would call their gear the "rig" once it was setup. Then this simply filtered into home use.
The term system for cars is something I was saying since I was 16 and first got into car stereos, roughly 13 years ago. Not saying that 13 years is a long time, just implying that it's an established term.

Some of the components of my stereo system are over 20 years old.
