Default Avoiding liver problems

I am a very passionate boozer, and have been drinking for years. I'm now 24 years old and generally drink whiskey straight everyday. Not a lot, a drink or two before dinner every night. I like my booze so much that if I didn't get it under control, I'd eventually have to give up drinking due to liver damage. If that happened, the light at the end of the tunnel just wouldn't be as bright for me.

Now a good friend of mine gave me this idea. As we understand it, there are two major types of liver problems due to drinking. First you get a fatty liver, and it becomes inflamed. This condition as I understand is reversible if you quit drinking for a while. Once you get sever scars on your liver, it's irreversible and you have to quit for good.

So his idea was to quit drinking for a month once in a while, so your liver can recuperate. During this time we'd drink a lot of water and are looking into liver cleansing programs. I'm very serious about this, and wish to figure out a way to drink forever. I know moderation is the answer, and it's not like I drink day and night. With all the knowledge and technology we have today, there has to be a way to cheat the system. Right?

If anyone has insight to offer on the subject, I'd appreciate it. Advice on how to and , but minimize the risks is what I'm looking for. Please don't recommend me to AA. If and when the time comes, I will happily go see them.

There is some evidence that taking Milk Thistle can provide aid in protecting/regenerating the liver.

Acetylcysteine could help liver function also.

Milk thistle is pretty cheap, you could take it and hope it works.

I don't think the plan of taking a month off will work. If you drink everyday I can't see you suddenly stopping for a months time.

Well this is my first month off. It's going well so far. I have been smoking everyday, but I say "no" to drinking everyday. That's what its about anyways, disciplining my ego. I usually do whatever the **** I please.

Hey man i wouldn't worry about a drink or two every day. You know they recommend a glass of red wine each day for your heart. Notice they don't say anything about damaging your liver? I wouldn't sweat your whiskey, now people who binge or drink a 12, 18, 24 or 30 pack a day have to worry about liver issues.

though this all depends on what you consider a glass, you should say how much is in "a glass or two"

I call one drink 1 shot or 1 beer. few drinks = 1-3 drinks.

I just ran across an interesting read about how coffee helps prevent liver cirrhoses:

LINK

That's great because I drink a cup or two of coffee per day, and could easily up it.

You don't realize it but you are already thinking like an alcoholic.
