If you drink so much that you are worried about liver damage, look at NSAIDs and another common pain reliever-Acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Then go see a shrink because you are at the beginning of an ugly slide into drug dependency.

The liver is a huge organ that can take some significant damage, but why hammer it? Do you know if you have full liver function now? Family history? Etc.

And, don't confuse the mediterranean diet used by s. european villagers, as a sign that anything you do is right. Those people have significantly better diets, caloric intakes, family support, and general lifestyle, as well as genetics.
no known family history of liver problems. I had a liver enzyme test done a year or so ago. Everything was great. I do however have a family history of cardiovascular problems and high cholesterol. last checked my cholesterol was like 240. On the bright side, I was told that my ratio of good/bad cholesterol was extremely good. I was also told that my good cholesterol was higher due to drinking and exercising.

As many of you have said, a drink or two per night isn't a lot. I just don't want to take any chances with my liver. That's why I haven't been drinking for the last few weeks and will continue not to drink for the rest of this month. After that I'm going to slow things down a bit. I just wanted to get educated on exactly how alcohol affects my liver, and what can be done to prevent long term damage.

I just ran across an interesting read about how coffee helps prevent liver cirrhoses:

LINK

That's great because I drink a cup or two of coffee per day, and could easily up it.
yes!

i drink like 3 cups of coffee everyday and 3 drinks a night. dang... some good news, finally.
