Baby's First Home Defense Weapon
So I went to a gun shop today intending to pick out a nice Glock+laser for my girlfriend to protect herself should any intruders try to break in while I'm not at
home.
Talked to the owner for quite a time and he convinced me to consider a shotgun instead, specifically the Mossburg 500 'Persuader'. Just the Click-CLACK of
chambering a round should do quite well at convincing an intruder he needs to turn the fuck around pronto. Moreover, I like the fact that it's proven and reliable
(has been the standard issue shotgun to police departments), very easy to aim esp when one is frightened and pumped full of adrenaline, and the best part is that with
buckshot rounds the excess pellets (that don't splatter into some fucker) won't go through the walls and hit some innocent bystander across the street. Lastly, the
Mossburg 500 is easily less-than-half what I was ready to spend on a Glock+laser.
Here is what it looks like (sorry for the large size, but it does give you a good idea):

I intend on mounting a light to it as well.
And yes, we are going to take full gun safety course and take the gun out to a gun range to practice, as well as researching all the pertinent gun laws.
If anybody else has any opinions about this shotgun-- particularly people who own a 'Persuader' or another shotgun-- I'm happy to hear your input! Thanks!

Nice shooter. I have its cousin, the Maverick 88. Only difference is location of the safety and trigger housing. I do not recommend putting a pistol grip on there as the recoil is stupid as-is. Forget about it if this is for the g-unit.
I have that gun - I use the long barrel to shoot clays and the short barrel to shoot people. j/k I haven't shot any people with it. It's a good gun - lightweight, fast and reliable and it doesn't even need to be accurate.

Remington 870 with alternating buck and slug would have gotten my vote. Or the Judge pistol (shoots .45 and .410 [i think these are the cal's it can shoot])
we'll have the first two shells with birdshot to stop em, the last three with buckshot to finish any too high on PCP or crack to feel the first two.

Do take your girlfriend to the range and let her get accustomed to the gun. Use silhouette targets so she gets familiar hitting center mass, and teach her to tuck the butt under her armpit to reduce kick/speed up target acquisition. Use low base rounds at first for target practice (00 is expensive) and also teach her to service/clean it.

the guy at the gunshop suggested that if necessary, she could brace it under her arm against a wall and point it at the doorway from our bedroom... that's the "safe area", and any bad guys can have whatever they want from the rest of our pad-- that's what insurance is for-- but if they may not go into the bedroom, where she'll be with hopefully the shotgun in her hands, and on her wireless cellphone headset calling 911.
