back to school at age 40? what degree?
I am almost 40 ****ing years old..... I have been a dork accounant for the past XX years..... my work is suffering from the recession (as are many) but also it has become very mundane....
i went back to my home town and found out a few people are going back to school even at 40.....
any opinions on that? What would I go back for? I like working with people, so something like an Occupational Therapist would be great (i think that would require about 4 years of part time school / full time school)..
I currently have a college degree in Accounting and nothing more.....
thanks!

I'll answer your question with a question..
What do you love? if you could do anything what would you do?
There is no sense changing from one mundane job to another just for the sake of something different. It will get old quick too.
Once decided, I don't think there is anything wrong with going back to school at 40, hell I know a few that just never left.

I don't know that you neccesarilyhave to go back to school if you don't want to.
I have an accounting degree as well, just a BA and its pretty flexible. I originally went into accounting with the thought of getting into the FBI but then found out too late I did not meet the minimum eyesight requirement and they did not accept lasik at the time (pre 911). Now they are screaming for people and the generally want accounting and law degrees because they investigate lots of white collar stuff.
You could be a financial analyst, or a broker.
If you are good with money here are two areas you might want to use your degree in that can pay well, hospitals and school districts. They have their own little knowledge bases to learn like medicare billing for example, but once you get to know the ropes you can make well into 6 figures and being a finance director.
Have you ever though of being a slumlord? And screw nurse, you could be a social worker and hand out checks to Taste-T.

Get a degree in CEO. That way you can learn how to screw hard working Americans out of their savings and investments while raking in tens of millions for yourself. You also have to learn to be unapologetic about it.

Problem is it may not payoff quickly enough.
