Bad Experience With Another S2k'er
I'm not going to use this person's name because this person is not here to defend themself, but I need some advice. I bought a tire from this person almost a month ago but didn't get it put on until yesterday. Here's how the PM's went:
First PM
Well I finally got the tire mounted and balanced.
I went outside this morning to find a flat tire, I pumped it up and took it to the place that mounted it for me. They said the patch had failed, and that air was leaking out of the original hole. I had to end up replacing the tire.
I know there's not much you can do about it, but please be a little more careful next time you sell something. The small hole <"from a nail"> you quoted in your PM ended up being a pretty large gash out of the tire, enough to almost dig my pinky into. Thanks.

my apologies for that all i made on that tire was 22 bucks cause of the 20+ of shipping i spend, the tire was working fine when i took it off, i think its a little rude that you give me advice...
thanks

Second PM
I'm sorry you think its a little rude you sent me a tire that went flat a day after I put it on. I also think it's pretty nice of me not to ship the tire back to you and ask for a refund. Sorry you only made $22 on the tire, because I lost a lot more.

Third PM
Actually I would appreciate a refund, considering I've gone through a lot of expense to get it working, then to find out it should never had been patched at all.
You can send the $22 to XXXXX@aol.com, and we just won't have to do business anymore. Your tone is pretty rude considering YOU have cost me a lot of money - I would feel bad if it were me on the flipside, but I guess we are also two different people.
Go back and read our PMs, I was never once mean or rude to you even though I have every right to be. I never said you did anything on purpse, and never accused you of ripping anybody off - I just asked you to please be a little more careful next time, that's all.
I'll let you know when I receive the $22.

on second thought i ll just call it quits right here , cause by saying to be more careful i sense a bad vibe thats all
<responses then quit coming>
I don't feel that I acted incorrectly, I didn't even ask for a refund the first time. I'm not trying to rally support or anything here, I just want to know if I'm being unreasonable.

sometimes representation is a form of perception, not necessarily being a deceptive seller. its difficult to make a clear cut decision on this. keep in mind, if you are buying a set of tires, and they are used - or heck, any part for that matter - YOU, the buyer, take risks.
others have bought used parts from other memebers of the board and inquire about missing parts, instructions for installation and an entirely new kit or part because the used one doesn't function properly.
its a relatively small amount - under fifty bucks. and yes, I know the headache is under principle, but sometimes, you gotta admit, you get what you pay for, right? this isn't coming down on you as being stuck as a buyer - but he's giving you a refund, right? so that's a good thing that he's at least honoring that.

I understand what you are saying, in that I assume a lot more risk when I buy used. If somebody tells you they got a nail hole in a tire you think that they are telling you the truth, but when my girlfriend can stick her index finger in the hole I think its more than perception.
Schatten - If you read his last reply, he said he didn't want to give me a refund because something didn't seem right. I offered to ship the entire tire back to him at my cost, and refund the rest and he hasn't answered.

He may have honestly thought it was just a small nail hole, patching and driving home may have made it bigger?
Either way, I think both of you got a little defensive.
hope it works out

Thanks for the advice guys, I won't see a refund, but I'll be damn sure to get pictures instead of just trusting. I guess it might make me come off badly, but I guess its the only way to know what you are going to get. Thanks again!
