Default Mailboxes Etc. problem and what should I do?

On Saturday early-noon, I dropped off a package to be shipped. The person at the counter wasn't familiar with what had to be done, however, he and I filled out the forms and weighed the boxes. He took down the information, charged me, and I left. I was under the impression that once the owner comes into the store, they'd take care of everything, send it out, and call me with the tracking numbers.

I ended up calling Saturday evening, right before they closed, and I spoke to the owner. He informed me that I missed the scheduled pick up and he would send it out Monday morning and then call me with the shipping numbers. Monday came and went, I never heard from him. I called this morning, and I got a wishy-washy tone from him. Is is bad manners for me to pop in to see if the boxes are still sitting there? Should I go mid-evil on him, if they are there?

I've called UPS and they can't get me tracking numbers off the shipment unless I have a reference number. I don't have a reference number, but I do have the shipper's address, the pick-up address, and the recipient's address. They won't give me any delivery info for security reasons.

What should/can I do?

get on their asses and if they don't provide you with numbers that can be confirmed in your presence, then you have them call up UPS and find the package.
