Bastard flight training
Juan Pablo Montoya learned many racetracks through PC sim/games.
PC based flight simulators, like Flight Simulator 2000, available just about anywhere, will teach you an awful lot about how to fly one of those large jets, especially when coupled with a yoke controller. They even have realistic city and airports, allowing practice of a particular route hundreds of times..
And as most peole who have played with those games know, landing is really the only difficult part...

Are you kidding me?
Have you ever seen the "security" people at the airport? The ones that are stationed by those metal detectors? Especially at JFK and LAG 1) I highly doubt that most have any experience in law enforcement 2) They obviously need training in communication skills (based on my numerous experiences) 3) Are HIGHLY, unmotivated and lax 4) Should be replaced by retired law enforcement officals who have the exerience and instincts. Also, I for one am supportive of the idea of having an armed security officer on each flight. It would cut down the number of Highjackings, prevent those roudy passengers from getting out of hand, and give a sence of safety to those on board. So what if I have to pay $25 more per ticket. i think it's worth it.

i agree, we should pay more for real professionals at the airport.
if you ever seen saturday night live's depiction of airport security (no offense to those who do work at airports), you'll know it's pretty accurate.

The guys they trained learned on a cesna. They had all the proper documentation. How can you deny that they be trained. The instructor they interviewed said that besides taking off and landing a 757, flying it would be vey similar to flying a cesna.
As far as airport security goes, one of the local stations in LA did a test here. They were able to smuggle pieces of metal and also a lead lined box with a toy gun, toy grenade, and a toy knife past the security x-ray. Airport security is a joke and they get paid less than the fast food workers.
There is talk now that Federal Marshall's will take over airport security. I hope the FAA dictates this to happen.
