Beats by Dr. Dre
Anyone own the studios? (the over-ear ones)
I've been thinking about getting them, especially since I listen to so much music at work.
At the apple store they're $300... wow
But on eBay, I've seen a bunch for $180 and up, with free shipping. Are these legit? I would like to think so, but something tells me it's too good to be true.

Legit, got them cost me 300$ also, i got an hp laptop before this deployment 900$ funny thing is they have beats sound system with a subwoofer on the bottom of the laptop, I bump both the beats, it sends me away into the music or the movie. Its a good investment and didnt disapoint me. I am a cheap ass but i like to listen to music and these headphones dont even get in the way when i plug them into my ipod at the gym.
Good stuff man good luck on your choice

Don't buy those. I have these and like them: http://www.amazon.com/Beats-Studio-Dr-Dre-...94618931&sr=8-1
I know a lot of people hate Monster products, but these actually sound really really good - comparable to my Sennheiser HD595. With a little search, you could find them for under $200. But I would not buy them from Ebay, as there are a lot of fakes on there. I also would not buy the ones you posted on Ebay either, unless it's from a reputable store on there.
Edit: Never mind. Are they the same headphones? The white ones look smaller for some reason.

Why are you considering these?
I tried them out @ the apple store, thought they were really nice. But otherwise, I don't know a thing about headphones

I'll give you a hint, they're overpriced marketing hype. I'm not saying they're inherently bad, I'm just saying they're not gonna be any better than 100$ pair of Sennheiser HD555's. Do your wallet a favor and do some research.
Or just buy them because they have Dre's name, whatever floats your boat. Just know you're throwing a lot of money away.

That's a fairly open ended question as sound is very subjective.
I guess there proper place to start is the spec sheet.
The first and foremost is it's frequency range, the wider the better. Many headphones have a narrow range, so their reproduction of sound is limited. Beyond that, sound is a very grey area. Some spec sheets look great, but the materials used, or design of inside the can is horrendous, and sound reproduction suffers.
Being that appearance is one of your concerns, as well as performance, I really would lead you toward Sennheisers headphones. The HD555's or 558's should treat you well (note: the 558's are much newer than the 555's that have been out for years, I loved them though).
There are other great brands that might squeek out a little more performance per $, such as Audio Technica, but I don't want to wear alien headphones. The Sennheiser HD 555/558's are entry level audiophile headphones that should treat you well. One thing to consider when purchasing headphones though is also the source they well be attached to. i.e. Computer w/ onboard soundcard, computer with say an x-fi sound card, ipod, blah blah blah. Headphones can only do as much as the source allows them to, which is one of the problems about grading them.
I've been out of the headphone game for a year or two, so I'm not sure what new competitors or products are out there. But I was big into sound for a long time and Sennheiser never treated me poorly in their product, or pricing. Their customer service is also top notch.

If you're gonna go over-ear, get a pair of Sennheisers or AKGs and be done with it.
Ignore the fact that if you're paying $300 for cans and not plugging them into a discrete headphone circuit/amp/DAC/combo, then you're just jerking off.
That said, I use Sony MDR-7506s when tracking and I have a pair of Shure SRH240s for my home recording rig.
