Default Becoming a hermit

So..was just thinking about this.. if one was fed-up with daily life in the city and would like to become a hermit, where is a good place to become one?

Yep, pretty much. You can be a hermit and still be surrounded by people. But if you want to be as far away from people as possible, then I'd guess you need to evaluate a lot of different things. Like cold weather with some scenery? Howsabout Alaska? Need some heat and dry, flat land? Try west Texas. Want 4 seasons? Maybe Montana or the Dakotas.

Those are just a few examples of places with low population density in the US. You can also consider looking internationally, etc. And in most places, if you've got the money, you can be within 50 miles of a major metropolitan area and still buy a parcel of land big enough that you can't see/hear your nearest neighbor.

Try shopping here:

I believe Wyoming has the fewest people per square mile. My recommendation would be Maine.
