Beer laws in your state (or country)
The thread on favorite shots got me thinking about the totally
'd up laws Alabama has regarding beer.
In most of the state, you cannot buy beer in stores on Sunday. There are only 3 cities which have started allowing it, and luckily my hometown (Huntsville) is one of them.
On top of that, you can't sell beer anywhere in the state that has more than 6% ABV, but you can get totally hammered on 151 if you like. What's up with that?
Also, homebrewing is legal and there is no alcohol limit if you make your own, which is a good thing since I've done several 9%+ beers.
I'm curious about the beer laws elsewhere. Any other states with stupid restrictions like this?

Well, I grew up in NY, where it seemed (to me) like anything goes. You can buy beer in the supermarket or in a distributor (also in delis and such), but you have to get liquor in a liquor store. There are liquor stores all over. Bars stay open until 4 am, so you can party late.
I went to college in VA. . . which was different, but not terrible. You can still buy beer in supermarkets, AND you can buy wine in a supermarket. Not bad for one-stop shopping. I think the cut-off time was near midnight, but I can't remember. However, you can't buy liquor from anywhere but state-run ABC stores. Oh, and I don't remember being able to buy liquor on Sundays. Why, I'll never know. All in all, not terrible if you timed everything right. Except everything closes at 2 am. I was used to going out at midnight and having 4 hours of partying left. Talk about a rude awakening when everyone else was ready to go out at 9 pm, and I was still napping and unshowered.
Now I live in PA. What a PITA to actually acquire beer/liquor. Beer is only sold in beer distributorships or "six pack stores" (which are essentially delis). However, the beer sold in six pack stores is retarted expensive in comparison. Now the problem is, I know of one beer distributor in my general vicinity. It's about 20 blocks from me (~2 miles) on foot. Not conducive to walking there. There's NO parking anywhere near the distributor (and it's in a sketchy area), so driving there is out. I think they deliver, but I'll never know. . . I now buy my beer while in NJ. Liquor is another issue all to itself. Again, you can only purchase wine and liquor at a state-run ABC store. The hours of these stores suck. The DO have a decent selection of well-priced wines, though. NOT open on Sundays. I think they're starting to test a few places with Sunday hours here in the city, but it's still a major pain. I remember my utter embarrassment when I first moved here and was invited to a dinner on a Sunday. I was the guy who showed up empty handed because the damn ABC store was closed.
Anyway, bars here close around 2 am, to which I am now accustomed. I go back to NYC and am half asleep by 2:30 am. . . and usually am laughed at.
At least I don't live in Utah. . . I guess.

I spent a day in Pittsburg last week and thought the lack of an alcohol limit was great. I was able to drink Chimay White and Delerium Tremons with my dinner!
Something that will never happen in Alabama.
I then asked the waitress where to get a few bottles to take home and she said from the bar. I've never been somewhere that you can take beer from the restaurant. It would suck that that's the only resonable place to get it, though.

Drinking is fun.
I live in Orlando, FL and they dont sell alcohol until after 11Am-12 i believe. You cant sell alcohol past 2 AM. However in Miami, you can pretty much get wasted all night long.

..lol I don't know if it is legal or just not enforced. In Vegas you can drink on the strip..sweet Here in San Diego they can't sell past 2:00am at bars but most don't sell past 1:30. You can buy alcohol at all hours.Sam
Damn, I feel spoiled. Voipa, you should really come on down to New Orleans sometime. Its not too hard to obtain a liquor license so almost every quick stop, grocery store, and pharmacy sells beer and sells it all hours of the day. In the heart of the city there is no open container law so you can walk around freely with whatever you can carry. We even have drive-throughs at the Daquiri shacks. They have changed some of the flaky laws in the past several years. Such as before 1996, it was illegal to drink alcohal under the age of 21 but you could buy it at 18. And until just recently, it used to be ok for the passenger in a car to have an open container! They changed that to no open containers while driving a vehicle so as the driver can't pass their beer over to the passenger if pulled over.

Here in CT we have some of the most idiotic laws. Package stores close at 8pm in most areas. The law now is 9pm but most follow the old time. They argue it cost more to keep them open than the sales they could make.
No liquor sales on Sunday. No sale at convenience stores. Grocery stores sale liquor but it has to leave the store before 8pm and once the hour hits, they put black tarps over the liquor section. Those are the ones that come to mind.
