I dropped into Brussels last year and while I didn't really get to give it much of a chance it didn't impress me at all.

I spent only 24 hours and found:

Lots of seedy characters around the train station and tram station (pretty normal but worse than I'm used to.)

Manequin de pis is cool but not worthy of an out of the way visit.

The town centre was impressive but again nothing stood out though to be fair I flew up from Munich where I experienced Oktoberfest so hard act to follow.

I stayed in the funniest hotel in Europe. The room I had was on the top floor and it was an internal spiral staircase so I had to throw my g/fs pack up to the landing as it was so steep! It reminded me of Alice in Wonderland and we both almost wet ourselves laughing

Belgian waffles with choc and strawberries are yum!

Again I don't mean to bag it out as i didn't give it a chance.

p.s are you a police officer? If so it sounds as though you blokes have been having too much fun

@8D in trunk : yeah the government is messing it up again, but they are allready a few years talking about seperating the flemisch part from the french talking part... but it will never happen...
I'm not interested in politics, but the way they are acting now makes me hate politics!

@Austblue : I'm not a police officer... but maybe I should become one! LOL

I understand that your first impression of brussels wasn't good. I personally don't like brussels since there are too many parts with aggressive people hanging around at trainstations etc...
Other towns are smaller but nicer to visit lige "Brugge" or "Antwerpen"

Funny this thread didn't turn out into a beer/chocolate thing... but the wafles allready showed up

Brugge is great. I liked it much better than the 'original' Venice.

Great Cathedrals.

Brussels was a great city with fantastic museums.

Frites & Mayo, Moules, Beer - - - a perfect dinner!

Chocolate - - - a better dessert.

I dated a girl that lived just outside of Brussels for a few months. She was pretty good in the sack.

Belgium is great. I used to live in the Netherlands so we had many occassions to go to Belgium. Good food (frites, mussels, etc.). Great diamond district in Antwerpen. Brussels was nice as well. Brugge was nice. Didn't make it to Spa but I did drink lots of Spa water

Best beer in the world, IMHO.
That is not an opinion, that is a fact! I am big fan of Lambics and Flemish Reds

Don't know much about Belgium except for having eaten Belgian chocolates before.
