Best readily available whiskey around $100?
I got a Christmas card today from a gentleman with whom I used to work: Koji Yamazaki. When he returned to Japan we got him a bottle of Yamazaki 18. I've had the 12 and it's quite good; I need to try the 18 one of these days.
On July, 2010, my wife and I were on a horse drive in NW Idaho. Amongst the riders were two ladies from Aberdeen, Scotland. According to them, Glenfiddich is swill. (They'd brought a bottle of Tormore; it's wonderful, and finally available in the US.)
I do not like Glenfiddich at all, but I have a good friend - another magician - for whom Glenfiddich is his favorite single malt whisky.

Blantons tasted really good I thought. Gave it to him today. He was very happy! Found out he likes scotch a lot too so I could have gotten him one of those instead. Oh well next year I'll get him a high end scotch whiskey.
